Verity is an erotic psychological thriller based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover (It Ends with Us, Regretting You, Reminders of Him).
The film follows Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite for Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a renowned author. After relocating to Verity’s remote estate, Lowen discovers autobiographical notes that paint a disturbing picture of Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett).
Boasting a Rotten Tomatoes critic rating of 33 per cent and an audience score of 71 per cent, the reviews have not been kind. Critics think the film is terrible. The plot is painfully slow, the characters are boring, and the director fails to generate any meaningful tension.
But if you are a Colleen Hoover (not to mention Hathaway and Johnson) fan, you could really love this film; watch Verity in cinemas today.
