In his motion, Okello said Emong’s performance was incredible, noting that his accomplishment and triumph presents a unique opportunity and platform for national pride, unity and an inspiration to the youth.
He argued that Emong demystified perceptions associated with disability by demonstrating that sports can help reduce stigma and discrimination associated with disability.

In 2005 while at school, Emong broke his left arm after he was beaten up by other students. He did not receive treatment for the injury, which resulted in limited use of the limb.
