Muhoozi (C) salutes his father Museveni at Entebbe airport

All factors remaining constant, President Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is seated in a good spot to replace his father.

After four decades, he finds himself in this prime position after his father emasculated – if not obliterated – all other potential candidates. If contenders have not been thoroughly humiliated, they are in jail or exile.

If they are in the country, they live in a state of fear and cannot build a thorough political profile. But like folks in the opposition, Gen. Muhoozi also finds himself in a dark waiting room – a perpetual waiting room – where the same man who has been his benefactor, keeps all others waiting without end.

Now at 53, he has become a little impatient, and is exercising presidential powers – as a way of demonstrating his presence. From AAA’s overthrow, JOO’s ascension to Speaker of Parliament, and now Erias Lukwago’s abduction, one can feel Muhoozi’s pain of having to wait in the woods for a presidency he feels close to.

For a long time, I have proposed to Muhoozi to hasten the process by overthrowing his father. (Museveni referring to himself as a bicycle cotter-pin – which only understands force – was not meant for opposition groups only, but whoever wanted to take power from him).

If Muhoozi overthrew his father, he will surely not be the first in history. He does not have to kill his old man Oedipus style. He only has to put him under a pretentious, luxurious “house arrest” at their country home in Rwakitura.

Here, the old man can attend to his cows, and also have the chance to meet his grandchildren away from cameras. In a weaker position, Muhoozi could insist that his father makes him Vice President so as to be officially the “president-in-waiting.”

In this case, he can even exercise an immense amount of power and his father could become a ceremonial head. But remaining simply as CDF is living dangerously. If the old man suddenly left this world, he might successfully wrestle his way to the top, but this is surely a dangerous gamble.

NOT LIKE FATHER

But once Muhoozi Kainerugabe becomes President, I will implore all opposition groups to throw themselves a party. While this will look like a Rwakitura Kingdom coming to life, it would be the beginning of the end of the kingdom.

Muhoozi would not only have overthrown an entrenched man, he would also have brought to life the transition question. I will say once more, the era of presidents lasting four decades is gone.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is not like the father. He is a weaker man than his paterfamilias – and still struggles to craft his own identity. It is difficult to understand through analogy.

But since Muhoozi derives all his powers from his father, this comparison is all the more urgent. One realises that to be president of this still neo- colonised enclave, one has to be close friends with western imperialism – except of course if you are ready for revolution.

Misled by Andrew Mwenda’s academic positions, Muhoozi hit out at the western world on Russia-Ukraine. Then later, he went against the American ambassador, threatening to deport him on a matter involving Bobi Wine. He has had a thing with the German ambassador.

While this would be a good posture for an academic, it is not good for a politician seeking to lead Uganda – with the old man having spent his entire political life serving western interests.

Indeed, western capital appears content with Museveni and entirely unsure about his son. Muhoozi has tried to cultivate a friendship with Israel, but with the genocide in Gaza, and a brewing Israel-American fallout over Iran, many western capitals are likely to become slower in their affairs with Israel.

AN OBSESSIVE EXHIBITIONISM

I have argued before that Muhoozi’s weakness – just as would be his strength – stems in the era in which he lives – one of Wi-Fi and affordable Chinese smartphones. Truth is, Muhoozi enjoys the limelight. He is like an influencer or a movie star!

All his actions and online thoughts are a public spectacle – from his fascination with big-bummed women to his penchant for exhibiting power. This explains his endless online jabs at Bobi Wine, and endlessly threatening to hang Dr Kizza Besigye.

While his father has committed more wrongs – as Mahmood Mamdani has stated in his recent book, Slow Poison – Yoweri Museveni worked so hard to eliminate all evidence. If any evidence ever came out, he would “rub the beard in the dust” denying his association with that specific crime.

In the worst- case scenario, he would admit to the crime while throwing those who worked for him under the bus. Not his son. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on his part, sees breaking the law as a privilege to be savoured, a chance to exhibit power and accomplishment.

In doing this, he not only publishes but also confirms his crimes. He was the man who showed us a tortured Eddie Mutwe in his basement, the stomped and battered Barbie Kyagulanyi, and the same man has sent us images of a distressed former mayor of Kampala City, Hon. Erias Lukwago.

You don’t have to hire an investigator for evidence of his crimes. You just follow his online footprint and actionable points. The man even appears online to justify his behaviour. My point is this: In Muhoozi becoming president, there is more to benefit than be afraid of.

In boxing, this is called going down the weights – as opposition gets to challenge a boxer who, despite his very big muscles, is tactless, and almost unprepared. Only reliant on his big muscles.

  1. Doc, you just don’t get it, do you? We are not dealing with some future, ‘weaker son python.’ I know you are deeply invested in analyzing the Muhoozi project, but what you are predicting is already happening. This son python is lethal. The ‘snake in the pot’ is already ruling right now with absolute, venomous, and violent impunity.
Muhoozi isn’t waiting for the future to venomous; he is currently deadly and wielding presidential powers. He abducts citizens at will, tortures them in basements, and openly mocks Ugandans on social media to show we cannot stop him. Look at what happened to Erias Lukwago. He was violently abducted from his home, blindfolded, and subjected to horrific abuse. How can you call a man who operates completely above the law a “weaker opponent”? Muhoozi has made it clear that Uganda is no longer governed by democracy or the rule of law. We are currently trapped under a violent militant anarchy and family rule, period.

  2. Doc, your previous article gave us an incredibly accurate and alarming picture of our reality. The featured image said it all: Kagame and Muhoozi at the top, with Muhoozi and his militants alongside foreign military officers below. That image tells a thousand words about our state capture. Uganda remains firmly under the control of the militants who emerged from the 1986 bush war—the historical network involving Museveni, Paul Kagame, and Fred Rwigyema, who used the gun to seize power. Your piece clearly demonstrated that this same military faction holds the country hostage today, with the lethal “son python” now firmly in charge. To make matters worse, Museveni has just reinforced this dynamic by appointing Dr. Lawrence Muganga—whose background directly ties back to this same regional network—as a minister.

  3. Fellow Ugandans, tuli mukulya Katonga ajuula! We are feasting on the banks of a flooding river, completely blind to the danger. Dr. Sserunkuma’s previous article exposed this exact trap by laying bare how Uganda is fully under militant custody. The visual layout he used showed a chilling chain of custody, linking the 1986 bush war directly to our current reality. The power structure established by Museveni, Kagame, and Rwigyema decades ago has simply mutated. Today, the “son python” is the face of this legacy, executing the same rule by the gun and violence. If you need any more proof of how deeply entrenched this historical network remains, look no further than the recent controversial cabinet appointment of Dr. Lawrence Muganga. The same clique is still pulling the strings.

    1. Ah , the “son python” happily pronounced that Mr.Lukwago needed diapers .
Just imagine if someone else talked about someone`s mother who has health challenges .
      ” obukookolo bugeyana “

  4. Remase, thanks.

Powerless tribally divided ruled Ugandans are sleeping, just go along being slaves of Rwandese Museveni, just ensuring his 45 years of ownership of the zone formed by their tribal lands while waiting for his family member to replace him finally, WHY?

How many Ugandans of Rwandese Museveni’s age still live, how do their children/grand kids live & with what hope?

    1. Akot my dearest, I am deeply disappointed by Dr. Sserunkuma’s obsession with the Muhoozi project. He has been hyper-focused on it forever, and he continues to justify it to this day. The Doc claims Muhoozi is stuck in a “dark waiting room” just like the opposition, yet he completely contradicts himself.Look at the facts: Muhoozi wields absolute presidential power. After abducting Erias Lukwago, Muhoozi openly bragged on X, calling Lukwago a “fool” who wouldn’t sleep, and even threatened that Hon. Ssemujju and Martha Karua would be next. Which opposition leader could ever issue such state-backed terror threats and get away with it?As Ssemujju rightly pointed out, only the President has legal immunity under our constitution. Yet, Muhoozi openly treats Parliament like a bunch of clowns, ignores court orders, and operates entirely above the law. I used to think Dr. Sserunkuma wanted genuine change for Uganda, but it is now clear he is just a status quo enabler helping to sustain this family-ruled anarchy.

  5. Doc, please don’t insult our intelligence. How can you claim Muhoozi is stuck in a “waiting room” just like the opposition? The man you claim is waiting is the exact person orchestrating the chaos—from AAA’s overthrow and Anita Among’s ascension, to Erias Lukwago’s recent abduction. You rightly pointed out that real contenders under this regime are thoroughly humiliated, jailed, exiled, or forced to live in absolute fear. If that is true, then Muhoozi is clearly not one of them. He operates the PLU political machinery completely at will, holds massive state-funded birthday rallies, and handpicks ministers like Balaam, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker. Muhoozi isn’t waiting in the dark with the rest of Uganda; he is the one turning off the lights.

    1. Thank you dear. !”ow`ebbango–” there must come a time when realism out – paces politeness .
At this point , mine is to request Mwami Sserunkuma to be honest and tell his followers what his real mission is . What is he hiding ; does Phd Okoth know ? Surely this is far beyond predicting the “inevitable”; it is a reversed promotion of something not really saleable ; a secret agenda of sorts marred by numerous contradictions .
And the timing is strange. When everyone is in shock about how Mukulu Erias was kidnapped and the sickening tweets that followed , Mw. Sserunkuma decided that this article is appropriate !?

  6. Mwami Sserunkuma , now you think that Muhoozi is like an influencer , a movie star who enjoys the limelight …
    Really Sir !!
You bring some of us to kindly ask you to be honest and tell us what your real mission is .
Some of us notice that you are wring about YOUR Muhoozi, not the one we see Our Muhoozi is a TYRANT with a very serious deficiency of social intelligence . His own behavior indicate that he has bouts of maladjustment .
From this side , we don`t see a man who “enjoys limelight”; instead , we see someone who enjoys giving other people as much pain as possible. There is a name for such people – and you Sir know it.
Your “influencer” is the type that kidnaps a man in front of his kids and then displays photos of his blind-folded captive and says ” we captured this fool ..this one needs dippers ..”
Yours is the kind of movie star who threatens to hand this one and that one anytime he decides to .
Come on please, before you write your next article about the ” president in waiting” think about the families of his victims . We are not talking about movies or which influencer can insult someone into a comma on social media; this Muhoozi a worrisome entity into our already messed up leadership .
So , some of us will continue to say it loud and clear : Uganda does not need and will never accept an unstable tyrant , regardless of how he comes in .
