Former Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago has been arrested by operatives of the Special Forces Command (SFC) from his residence in Wakaliga, Rubaga division, Kampala.
Earlier in the morning, Lukwago said his home had been surrounded by the elite military unit as he prepared to take his children to school. He reported seeing multiple vehicles and drone vans parked outside his gate, with both plainclothes and uniformed personnel deployed around the residence.
“I was also stunned to wake up and find two minibuses, commonly known as ‘drones,’ outside my gate. There are people in civilian clothes and others in army uniforms all over the place. I can’t get out of the house,” Lukwago said.
Lukwago added that he had not been informed of the reason for the deployment.
“I don’t know why they are here and what they are looking for. I haven’t spoken to them, and they haven’t spoken to us either,” he said.
Our reporter observed two drone vans and a police patrol vehicle carrying SFC operatives as they moved closer to the residence before some of the officers scaled the perimeter wall and entered the compound.
The arrest comes amid a stalemate in the treason and national security case involving Dr Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, Hajj Obeid Lutale, in which Lukwago serves as lead defence counsel.
The defence team, including Lukwago and Kenyan senior counsel Martha Karua, recently boycotted an evidence review session over access restrictions at Luzira Upper Prison, while the accused persons have also refused to physically attend court proceedings.
The incident at Lukwago’s Wakaliga home also comes as his legal team seeks to serve Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba with High court papers. On Thursday, Justice Emmanuel Baguma gave Gen Muhoozi seven days to respond to a petition filed by Besigye and Lutale over alleged social media threats.
Lukwago confirmed on Friday that the Attorney General had been served, but that Gen Muhoozi, Col Peter Ahimbisibwe and Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga were yet to be served.
The timing of the security deployment has fuelled speculation that it could be linked to the ongoing legal proceedings or signal an impending arrest. However, by press time, neither the police nor the army had issued an official statement regarding the operation.
We only pray to God , to take the whole family of museveni to hell . Education in uganda is totally fake if educated are not allowed to exercise their role .
This is the prayer foremost in the hearts of most Ugandans. The question is, when will this prayer be answered? This family has shed innocent blood for over 50 years; from Obote 1, General Amin Dada’s reign, through Obote 2 & Luweero Triangle days to-date. And what the dad has done, the psychopath descendant has been handed the baton. God where are you, for pity’s sake?
Surely this is not the reason as to why we go to the poles personally I am NRM support but very disappointed at how issues of security are put in jeopardy how I wish his excellence can really try to control unnecessary arrests then it will be well.
But for Hell and Heaven’s sake what tourists and/or serious investors would like to visit/invest in a lawless country where, as if in a permanent STATE OF EMERGENCY; in unmarked numberless Vans (Drones), menacing and marauding Special Force Command (SFC), under the Supreme Chief of Defence Force (CDF), ABDUCT civilians in broad-day-light?
In other words, what is the difference between the SFC and the Notorious Amin’s State Research Bureau (SRB)? Who in his/her right state of mind, can still deny that: Since Amin’s Era of terror and murder, it was actually our PROBLEM OF AFRICA, Gen Tibuhaburwa behind most of the abductions, unlawful arrest, forced disappearance, extrajudicial murders, terrorism etc.; BUT blamed entirely on Amin.
Otherwise, if it were Amin (RIP) and his SRB henchmen, the current and/or recent abductions and disappearances of innocent Ugandans would not be happening. Moreover Tibuhaburwa has coached, cultured and trained his son into the self-confessed mastery of lawlessness, subversion, violence and committing such abominable diaboli.
But Gen Muhoozi must be reminded that: however powerful he is now deluded (reckless), he is also abductionable. E.g., how was Nichola Maduro; the Venezuela president and his wife ABDUCTED from their State House Bedroom, the US Special Force?
Just on 13th June 2026, how was the Haitian Chief of Security/Police ABDUCTED by rampaging warlords?
Power reveals individual character. Also, it shows how we are brought up – family lineage. Muhoozi should respect the office of CDF, imitate the late Aronda Nyakairima(RIP) who evolved though still had respect for the office and Ugandans. Learn from his Uncle Salim Saleh(low profile, calm & professional) or even Mugisha Muntu. We all know Museveni’s dynasty is crumbling at fast rate. If Muhoozi is street smart, school smart, bush smart or even bar smart he would find away to market his image and bridge his(family) landscape across Ugandans. My parents told me that at onetime Ugandans praised late Obote(RIP)…”Twagala nnyo Obote nga Ssente” (We love Obote like Money). Muhoozi should verify with his Dad how power dynamic can change especially in a country like Uganda. The people Muhoozi & Co. tortures can forgive him & Co. the local people who witness the ongoing abuse will have no mercy when opportunity avails itself.
This is State Capture for lack of better term. This brainless brat now believes that he’s above the law, thanks to the father’s hereditary doctorship scheme.
While Lukwago’s political pandering is not very endearing (in my opinion), his abduction, especially because he’s believed to belittle the first clown is itself repugnant.
It’s ironic that while Museveni lectures the rest of Uganda against tribalism, division etc. he’s remained muted while his son endlessly extolls “Chwezi supremacy! Not only has he bestowed unqualified military leadership on his son, but he’s allowed him to now run a parallel tribal government with an ungazetted drone fleet to enforce his will.
