Security agencies on Saturday mounted coordinated raids on properties linked to former speaker of parliament Anita Among over suspected corruption allegations.
The operation, involving officers from the Crime Intelligence and Investigations Directorate (CIID) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), targeted Among’s upscale residence in Nakasero.
Security operatives also reportedly sealed off other properties associated with Among in Kololo and Kigo as investigators intensified searches linked to alleged illicit wealth accumulation.
The searches involved detectives, military intelligence officers and police forensic experts, who were seen examining documents and reviewing assets connected to the former speaker.
Witnesses said no one was being allowed to leave the Nakasero residence at the time of the operation. It remained unclear whether Among was inside the residence during the raid, although unconfirmed reports suggested she had been placed under house arrest.
Visitors were reportedly blocked from accessing the premises, which had been heavily cordoned off by security personnel. There were also reports of frantic efforts by lawyers led by Caleb Alaka to gain access to the property.
URN further understands that a similar search operation was conducted at the Kigo residence of Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere, a close associate of Among.
Nameere was arrested by security operatives in Masaka city on Friday shortly after her swearing-in ceremony. Investigators are reportedly pursuing documents and financial records linked to allegations of illicit wealth accumulation, money laundering, abuse of office and possible violations of Uganda’s Leadership Code Act.
The raids came barely three days after newly elected legislators were sworn in and just days before parliament is expected to elect its speaker on May 25.
Among had publicly expressed interest in seeking a second term as speaker. However, critics have accused her of amassing unexplained wealth during her tenure at the helm of parliament following the death of former speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
During her time as speaker, Among consolidated significant influence within both parliament and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), building a reputation for aggressively steering government business through the House.
The latest raids also come amid growing signs of political distancing from sections of the ruling establishment. The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a political pressure group associated with First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, recently withdrew its support for Among’s bid to retain the speakership.
Pressure further intensified after lawyers and civil society activists petitioned Inspector General of Government (IGG) Aisha Batala Naluzze, accusing Among of failing to fully declare her assets and allegedly living beyond what could reasonably be explained by her official earnings.
Petitioners specifically cited luxury properties and a reported Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at more than Shs 3.5 billion as examples of suspected unexplained wealth.
IGG Aisha Batala Naluzze has since confirmed receipt of the complaint and announced investigations into the allegations.
In 2024, both the United Kingdom and the United States imposed sanctions on Among over allegations linked to corruption and abuse of office connected to the diversion of iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in Karamoja under a government relief programme.
Although Among denied wrongdoing, the sanctions significantly damaged her international standing and amplified domestic criticism surrounding governance and accountability.
The unfolding scandal has also revived broader concerns about parliament’s institutional independence and its constitutional obligation to oversee public expenditure.
Governance expert Dr Sarah Bireete argued that parliament under Among increasingly appeared to prioritise political loyalty over accountability.
“Parliament is constitutionally expected to serve as the guardian of taxpayers’ resources,” Bireete said.
“But in recent years, many Ugandans saw an institution that often fast-tracked controversial government positions while appearing reluctant to rigorously scrutinize expenditure. The current investigations reflect growing frustration over impunity and institutional capture.”
Reports of tense internal meetings within the ruling party have further fuelled speculation that senior power brokers are reassessing Among’s political future amid fears that the corruption allegations could overshadow the legitimacy of the incoming parliament.
The cancellation of a planned high-profile dinner for newly sworn-in MPs at Munyonyo, widely interpreted as part of Among’s lobbying strategy ahead of the speaker election, intensified perceptions of weakening political influence.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) on Friday summoned clerk to parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija over alleged expenditure irregularities, raising speculation that investigators could widen their focus beyond the former speaker to broader parliamentary financial management structures.
I remember Chris Obore saying, “we are in things,” during the celebrations of Anita’s election as Speaker of the 11th Parliament. Indeed, it appears, they were really “in things.”
She seems to have amassed enormous wealth during her five years as Speaker of Parliament and openly displayed it for all to see. I hope she will be able to explain how that wealth was acquired.
Uhuru, I have known many Itesot. They are generally honest, modest, simple and very respectful. But what I saw in Among and her handler, Chris Obore; it is something else, what I have never come across of any Muteso .
E.g., even from a gender perspective: compare Among’s persona with those of Hon Alice Alaso and VP, Jessica Alupo? At those social political levels, the two examples makes Among personality an unacceptable embarrassment to the people of Teso.
And Chris Obore also sold his soul for the Biblical 30 pieces of Silver.
In other words, absolute power corrupts (blinds) and corrupts absolutely.
In other words, who in his/her right state of mind can still deny adage that: PRIDE comes before the FALL? Anita Among was and probably will be recorded in the annul of Uganda’s Parliamentary History, as the most arrogant, corrupt and nasty Speaker ever!
Fortunately or unfortunately her arrogance and nastiness, blinded her into becoming a very USEFUL IDIOT of our 86-years-old PROBLEM OF AFRICA, Gen Tibuhaburwa.
In other words, an idiot is characterized as:
a. Indifferent
b. Embody apathy nasty and does not care about the consequences of whatever s/he does
c. S/he does not take responsibility for anything, and someone else is to blame
d. S/he does not live by any moral and/or ethical code
e. S/he silences and numbs the conscience
f. Put an idiot in a position of power and s/he will abuse it
g. Make him/her custodian of anything and s/he will personalize it for personal use.
Like Great Satan does, Among did not learn and/or realize that: because it is not his personal money or resources; Gen Tibuhaburwa can spend any amount, appoints you to any position, pumpers and spoils his prey, That is in order to bring closest his useful enemies/idiots and then, after exhausting their usefulness, nails and embarrasses them into no political recovery
Dear friend , maybe you and others who follow the comments we put here remember that barely two weeks ago , I wrote that in Anita Among , Uganda has had the worst Speaker of all time. I also added , among other things , that she so full of herself she does seem to understand the role of a Speaker.
Now I confess: even as a wrote what I wrote , it never crossed my mind that her days as the Queen were numbered . Because I know that a corrupt system will always protect its corrupt , I though she is not yet done.
My doubt was not helped by her arrogant and exaggerated self confidence . I noted that only a few hours after shedding hot tears for the late Nakimuli , she attended a party where , smiling from ear to ear , announced ( told the Holy Son) that in her parliament , the opposition was not only shallowed out of sight , but the rest of what is left will be ” wapped”.
I don`t think she or many Ugandans knew as she mocked the oppressed, there were people plotting to blow out her light . so quickly , so dramatically . Cobra Kabanda , the chap she took to the Vatican and gave a posh car , become the beaming Angel Gabriel who took the good news to Mr. Oboth : ” the president has told me to announce to you that you will be the next Speaker..
As they congregated and jubilated inside the newly found Star . the humiliation was happening inside the Queen`s palace: heavy duty gargets were used to cut down her majestic doors . Unbelievable stuff !’
With us here , we know nti: “ejjanzi terigenda na nzige” = a cricket should always remember it never come and will never go away with locusts .even if both share similar mannerisms .
To make her case even worse , a section of Catholics from her area are not impressed that she openly abused the Sacrament of Communion .
We still pray for her and others who live under the illusion that money and power is an ever lasting antidote against all elements of life.
As for Ms Nameere , there isn`t too much to say really.
God awarded her with an extra wide mouth , but denied her the skill to use it properly . Even a small child in Masaka knows that she robbed Ms Nalubowa of her victory- in broad day light.
Still, she remained the only election thief who would not stop yapping . All the other thieves stayed quiet and mostly unseen , until they showed with Bibles and Korans raised high as they shore in His name .
Nameere herself showed up in Church of Easter and prayed like a Catholic . but when she stepped on the podium in parliament , she was a Muslim . Jesus and Allah were amazed
Knowing how her head works , she will come out of her temporary abduction blazing as usual . She will not notice that she is a victim of that “bad cop, good cop” phenomenon; the Son orders her humiliation ; the Dad orders her release.

Fellow Ugandans, don’t be fooled by the investigation into Anita Among. This is just business as usual to distract us. Real change won’t happen until we address the root cause: Museveni’s regime. Among is just a shield protecting the real looters—Museveni, his family, relatives, tribesmen, militants and his inner circle. If this anti-corruption fight were real, why aren’t Salim Saleh, Muhoozi M7 or Janet M7 being investigated? M7 himself is corrupt to the core! So, the fish rots from the head.
Mukulu , you could be right . Nobody with a brain can think that the system has just discovered that Anita Among has been stealing billions using all kinds of surrogates . This whole thing is aimed at two things : 1) to humiliate and chop off her wings. 2) to intimidate all climbers that may succumb to the temptation of imagining they are part of the tree.
This whole operation will be ordered to a halt as soon the webnet catches some untouchables . She , surely was not stealing alone. We know , for example , that she financed many of NRM vote riggers .
Betty, what Among and others therein have been engaged in, is the typical culture of poverty. As a result the Vanity Fair has come to a standstill in Anita Among’s household.
E.g., it is still fresh in my memory the type/size of House Among’s predecessor, Jacob Oulanya (RIP) was putting up in the middle of nowhere in his Home village in Omoro District; was typical from the culture of stinky poverty!
In other words, including her false self-importance (vanity); after being stripped of everything, Among will begin to experience the terror of what it means to “become and be poor”. And she will either kill herself or kills somebody.

Poor Andrew was picked up and thrown into Luzira where he found out that your rapid English is useless in there . According to Mwenda himself , he learnt how to speak some Luganda inside of Luzira cells. These days , Andrew Mwenda is the one who will tell you that without Museveni`s family , Uganda cannot exist.
– Then come Frank Gashumba . That one could not stay quiet on his program called ” sisimuka Uganda” ( wake up Ugandans” . He would spit so much fire against the system so much so , he was the darling of the Kyeyo fratanity . He and one Basajjamivule . One early morning , men in uniform cut off his house , entered , arrested him and later displayed Gashumba on TV in his night wear with sandals .His crime ? he was found with lots of forged documents and passports , lots of drugs etc; UPDF spokesman alleged that Frank Gasumba was engaged in the business of drug smuggling , human trafficking and serious fraud . All of a sudden , Gashumba looked like a caged rat.
That was enough to calm him down all the way to MK camp . He is right there like a fine omelette on a China plate.
– Gen.Sejjusa is still in town somewhere ; Gen.Kaihura mbu he is a farmer .Lol !
Queen AAA has just joined the list. She too . will be just fine after she has been taught where the line is drawn. It turns out that while she is surrounded , Andrew Mwenda is the one offering her free advice . Mbu , he is the one who told her to “withdraw”.

Clearly, Among had never internalized the sayings that, “s/he who eats with the devil needs a very long spoon “, or that “pride comes before the fall”. Let her suffer. I have no sympathy for her at all.
