Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo is a bevy of activities as the school prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary on July 22, 2017.

Activities preceding the celebrations are already in high gear according to the school’s head teacher, Fr Henry Kasasa.

“The students, parents and members of staff are being prepared as we usher in the jubilee celebrations,” said Kasasa, adding that all well-wishers are being brought on board to ensure a successful celebration.

A new state-of-the-art administration block that will serve as the golden jubilee monument is in its final stages of construction. The three-storey building will house the administrative offices and an ultra-modern e-library upon completion.

In an interview with The Observer, Fr Kasasa said this phase of the construction, which also comprises the remodeling of the school’s main gate, will also conclude the institution’s seven-year strategic plan.

“During the celebrations, we shall also be launching a new 10-year strategic work plan for 2018-2028,” revealed Kasasa.

Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo was founded in 1967 by parents of the area, led by Joseph Mugerwa, Jeremiah Munyigwa and Ms Hellen Namazzi, with support from the then area parish priest, Msgr Lawrence Mbwega. The school opened as a mixed day school on January 15, 1968 with 20 students.

Today, the highly ranked academic institution has an enrolment of over 2,000 students and many alumni.
