Residents watch on as firefighters attempt to put out the fire

Several classrooms at Kakira High School, one of the largest government secondary schools in Kakira town council, Jinja district were completely destroyed after a fire broke out on Sunday morning.

Alarmed students rushed to alert teachers and nearby residents, and together they attempted to contain the fire before firefighters arrived but the blaze, which was first spotted by students at around 7.00 am, destroyed several furniture, study materials and the roof.

Firefighting teams from the police and nearby Jinja-based factories later joined the rescue efforts and managed to put out the fire. A teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the school was already grappling with severe classroom congestion due to rising student enrollment.Â
