Lugogo Hockey Grounds pulsed with life on Sunday, June 1, 2025, as thousands of revellers flocked to the Reggae Ragga Nyam Nyam Edition of Roast and Rhyme, transforming the city into a festival of music, meat, and memories.
The much-loved event, now a mainstay on Uganda’s entertainment calendar, delivered a power-packed showcase of sound, flavour, and style. After a postponed February date, anticipation had been building, and the festival didn’t disappoint.
Under a cloudless Kampala sky, a lively crowd embraced the electric energy of an experience that brought together top-tier performers and Uganda’s vibrant lifestyle culture. The stage was ablaze with high-octane acts from crowd-pullers like Winnie Nwagi, Karole Kasita, Young Mulo, and Fyno UG.

Their performances sent waves of excitement through the audience, who danced with abandon and sang along to every beat. From timeless dancehall anthems to fresh urban grooves, the artists left no musical stone unturned. But Roast and Rhyme was far more than just a concert. It was a sensory adventure.
Smoke curled up from rows of open grills as vendors dished out everything from mouth-watering nyama choma to juicy local delicacies. Cold drinks flowed freely, and pop-up stalls gave local entrepreneurs a stage of their own all reinforcing Swangz Avenue’s vision of empowering Uganda’s creative and culinary scene.

Originally slated for Jahazi Pier in February, the festival faced venue-related setbacks and was rescheduled. The relocation to Lugogo proved fortuitous. The spacious, accessible setting offered the perfect canvas for a reimagined experience.
And in a gesture that struck a chord with fans, those who had held onto tickets from the February edition were not only granted entry but allowed to bring a plus one for free. Now in its 23rd edition, Roast and Rhyme continues to grow in scale and reputation.
This latest chapter signals a bold evolution one that balances tradition with fresh energy and continues to redefine what a Ugandan lifestyle festival can be.
