The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has sacked Sheikh Huzaima Magumba from his role as District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District over allegations of forging academic documents.

The termination, effective immediately, was communicated in a letter dated May 26, 2025, signed by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje. The action follows a formal complaint raised by concerned members of the Muslim community in Bugweri questioning the authenticity of Sheikh Magumba’s Thanawi certificate, a key academic requirement for his appointment.

According to the Mufti, an investigation conducted by the UMSC revealed that the documents submitted by Sheikh Magumba were indeed forged.

“This act constitutes a serious violation of the UMSC Constitution, particularly Article 19(3)(b), which outlines the required qualifications for the position of District Kadhi,” the letter states.

In light of these findings, Sheikh Magumba has been relieved of his duties and instructed to vacate the office immediately. He has also been directed to return all UMSC property and equipment in his possession to the district chairperson without delay.

Mubajje emphasized that the decision was made to preserve the integrity and credibility of the Muslim leadership in Uganda.

“This action is necessary to uphold the values of honesty and accountability in our leadership, and to maintain the trust of the Muslim community in Bugweri and the nation at large,” the Mufti noted.

The UMSC has not yet announced a replacement for Sheikh Magumba.

  1. I am liking this naming and shaming trend with the photos attached to names and offices…sad that Muhammad the prophet ( peace be upon him) was illiterate(could not read or write and required the assistance of scribes to write the best book in the world- the holy Quran) yet here we are stopping an individual from practicing religious duties.
If you guys were around during the time of The Prophet, would he have been allowed to spread Islam ?
