The police in Kitgum have launched an investigation into the sudden death of an intern doctor Rodgers Abaho, who passed away on Tuesday at St Joseph’s hospital.

According to Joe Oloya, Aswa East regional police public relations officer,  Abaho reported for duty on Monday morning and worked until 6:00 p.m., when he retired to the staff quarters.

Later that night, at around 10:45 p.m., he was called to the maternity ward to attend to a mother experiencing complications after childbirth. After successfully handling the case, he returned to his residence.

However, at approximately 2:53 a.m., he suddenly fell ill. Dr. Abaho sought medical attention at the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD), where he developed rashes all over his body and began experiencing difficulty breathing.

Despite efforts by his colleagues to stabilize him, he passed away two hours later at 4:23 a.m. Oloya confirmed that police have opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Abaho’s sudden death.

His body has been transferred to Gulu regional referral hospital for an autopsy, which was requested by his relatives in Ishaka, Bushenyi, to establish the exact cause of death.
