RIP: Brig Gen Charles Oluka

Several security officials and political leaders have paid tribute to Brig Gen Charles Oluka, the director general of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), who passed away suddenly on Wednesday night.

Oluka collapsed during a family prayer session and was rushed to Seguku hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. State House deputy press secretary Farouq Kirunda confirmed his passing at around 10 pm.

Oluka left the office at around 5 pm and later joined his family for evening prayers. It was during the prayers that he developed a sudden medical condition.

Following his passing, tributes poured in from serving and retired security personnel, describing Oluka as a humble and committed officer who dedicated his life to national security.

Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde expressed shock at Oluka’s passing, stating: “I am shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Director General ISO, Brig Gen Charles Oluka. A dedicated professional whom I was honoured to work closely with during my time in service”

Security minister Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi said that Oluka has been a resourceful and dutiful officer who kept a low but work-result-rich profile in his selfless service to the intelligence community.

“His sudden demise is a profound loss to our country and his beloved family.”

CID director, Tom Magambo, said Oluka was his comrade and an elder. Magambo added that his demise is indeed a tragedy.

“My colleagues and I are grateful for your service to our motherland. Go well to the podium of our ancestors,” Magambo said.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Patrick Oboi Amuriat called Oluka a “well-polished army officer who worked tirelessly to deliver peace and security,” while expressing condolences to his family and the people of Teso.

Speaker of parliament Anita Among described Oluka as a personal friend.

“He was a dedicated patriot who served his country with commitment. His passing is indeed a profound loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire UPDF fraternity,” said Anita.

Thomas Tayebwa, deputy speaker of parliament described Oluka as a fine gentleman who enhanced teamwork and raised the profile of ISO whose dedication to work and commitment to his country was unrivalled.
