The administration of President Donald Trump has pledged a transformative shift in US bilateral relations with African nations, focusing on infrastructure development to promote trade and economic growth rather than relying on financial handouts.
This vision was conveyed to Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among during a meeting at State House Nakasero. The delegation included Dr Rollan Roberts, a former US presidential candidate, David Woodruff, a representative of the Senate of West Virginia, and Siljander Mark Deli, a former congressman and ambassador.
Dr Roberts emphasized that Africa’s growth hinges on fundamental infrastructure advancements rather than aid, a perspective strongly supported by President Trump’s administration.
“I think you are going to see a marked shift towards this direction which we both agree is the right way for Africa,” Dr Roberts stated.
The discussions between President Museveni and the US delegation centered on trade, infrastructure development, and other areas of mutual interest. The team assured Museveni that the new US approach aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Uganda and the United States.
““It’s a good initiative because we need dialogue to agree on a way forward. Sometimes there is a lack of discussion which has led to scattered positions,” Museveni remarked.
The president also reiterated Africa’s overarching goal of achieving social and economic transformation, transitioning from a traditional economy to a modern, monetized economy, while also advancing the continent’s political federation.
Museveni said Uganda is focusing on four key sectors including commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT. To realize these ambitions, Museveni said, there’s a need a regional market, as the domestic market alone is insufficient.
On political integration, Museveni informed the delegation about ongoing efforts to establish the East African Political Federation, which he described as a future cornerstone for the African continent. He urged the delegation to prioritize capacity-building in critical areas such as trade, democracy, healthcare, education, transport infrastructure, and energy.
The meeting concluded with Museveni accepting an invitation for an official working visit to the United States later this year.

Since Trump had the shithole mindset about Africa, I erroneously read this title as: President Trump promises shithole in US-Africa relations.
Eish!
In other words, like the ants, thanks to the Chinese competitive aggression in the Infrastructure Development in Africa, which has started to alienate the West’s relation with Africa hence a wakeup call: by hook or crooks, China is swallowing Africa whole!
