Finally, Oliver Nakakande, who was crowned Miss Uganda 2019, handed over the crown to Hannah Karema Tumukunde, Uganda’s new beauty queen.
After three months, the 2023 search for a Miss Uganda ended on March 18, in a glamourous event at UMA Multipurpose hall in Nakawa. The event was well attended, with Manuela Mulondo and former Miss Uganda Stella Nantumbwe on the panel of judges, while Dr Mitch Egwang and a visibly pregnant Anita Fabiola played hosts for the night as 22 young women competed for the ‘fairest of them all’ title.
At the end of the evening, it was Tumukunde who won the judges’ hearts. Contestants showcased outfits ranging from party wear to creative outfits, before a Q-and-A session narrowed the contestants down to the top five.
Tumukunde, who also won a Toyota Wish, will represent Uganda in the 71st Miss World pageant in Dubai. Dancehall star Cindy Sanyu’s younger sister Whitney Martha Ademun – also the fans’ favourite – came in second place, while Prossy Agwang came third.
There were also performances by B2C, Jackie Chandiru and Levixone. The event, sponsored by Nile Special, ended at 1am.
