After police officers from the traffic department recently said most road accidents are due to poor understanding of road signs, ZURAH NAKABUGO continues to explain these markings to both motorists and pedestrians.

T-intersection

This sign warns motorists about dangerous spots. It cautions you to stop before turning left or right since there is an end to the road. This sign is always put when the road leads to a lake, river, bridge and near buildings.

Side road

It notifies you to reduce on the speed before joining or leaving the main road.

Y-intersection
It warns motorists to reduce speed before joining a Y-intersection since there is always traffic. This is done to avoid head-on collision.

Roundabout

It informs motorists that the first driver on the roundabout has right of way. Drivers are warned to reduce speed and check in the mirror before getting into the next correct lane.

Drivers are advised to give way to traffic already in the roundabout, and can only join when there is space. Motorists are advised to watch out for motorcyclists and pedestrians.
