One person died on spot and three others were wounded in yesterday’s ambush that involved two Ugandan buses and three other vehicles in South Sudan.

The incident happened at around 11:30pm at Amer junction, 90 kilometers from the South Sudan capital, Juba. Unknown gunmen are said to have opened fire at a Crown bus, registration number UAQ 409D, driven by 41-year-old Oja Tabila. 

Another bus belonging to Gold Line bus company registration number, UAS 373Y later fell into the same ambush but no one was injured.
 
Later, the third vehicle, a Toyota Noah with South Sudanese number plates was also shot at leaving one person dead on the spot. Another two passengers were injured and have been hospitalized at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu in northern Uganda. They are reported to be under critical condition.
 
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region police spokesperson identified the injured as Joseph Ibeya and Benard Ongoba.
 
Quoting South Sudanese security sources, Okema said another South Sudan registered vehicle a Toyota Prado reg. SSD 598D drove through the same ambush without any incident. He says a truck transporting sugar from Kigali, Rwanda was also shot at between Obama and Aruu junction in South Sudan. The driver escaped unhurt.
 
South Sudan remains volatile since fresh fighting broke out in July 2015 between forces loyal to former first vice president Riek Machar and President Salva Kiir.

More than 10 vehicles to and from Uganda have been attacked inside South Sudan injuring scores and killing others since the fresh violence broke out pushing thousands into refugees in Uganda and other neighbouring countries.
