And then there were only four! Two pairings are left to challenge one another for the right to be crowned winners of the Seventh Season of the Singleton Match Play Challenge at the par-71 Entebbe Golf Club.
Joseph Bogera and Kenneth Kiddu last Saturday proved that they are men of steel after holding off the formidable pairing of Club Captain Serwano Walusimbi and Peter Magona 4&3 in a dominant showing.
Awaiting them are Richard Mucunguzi and Saidi Kirarira who defeated Brian Manyindo and Michael Odur on the 16th hole. The grand final will be held on December 2 to close off a season that has thrown thrills and spills of the always-popular Match Play competition.
Saturday’s event was a particularly colourful day because it also combined as the final leg of the 2023 Inter-Club competition. A strong field of golfers from Kigali Golf Club travelled and competed on Friday and Saturday at Uganda Golf Club and Entebbe respectively.
Also in the competition was Kabale Golf Club. In Friday’s leg of the Inter-Club contest, Uganda Golf Club predictably emerged top with 361 points while Entebbe and Kigali garnered 351 and 341.
Entebbe golfers made the most of the final leg being played on their course as they tallied an impressive 376 points on the day to reach an overall 1100, which was unassailable. Kigali emerged runner-ups with 1099, losing to Entebbe by only a point, while Uganda Golf Club came third with 1051.
