Katwe territorial police is investigating an incident that led to the death of nine people during a New Year's celebration stampede at Freedom City Mall in Namasuba, a Kampala city suburb.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire the incident happened at midnight when the event's MC encouraged the revellers to go outside and watch a fireworks display.

After the fireworks display, a stampede ensued as revellers allegedly rushed back to jostle for seats resulting in the instant deaths of five people and injuries to several others.

However much you warn Ugandans against going to very crowded places which are poorly ventilated and with no proper escape routes they dont listen.

You can imagine a place that was designed to hold 1000 people having over 5000 at ago, what do you expect. its hard to feel sorry for some of these folks, may be natural selection was at work
