Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende is now out of Aga Khan hospital intensive care unit (ICU) where she was rushed on Tuesday evening hours after undergoing abdominal surgery.

Lubaga North councillor James Mubiru who is with the legislator in Nairobi, says that doctors invited her caretakers at around 11 am on Thursday morning to receive Malende after being taken out of the ICU and returned to the general ward.

Malende was flown to Nairobi on Sunday morning after the doctors indicated that she had ingested a 'strange chemical' that affected her intestines. Mubiru says that Malende is currently recuperating in the general ward as doctors continue monitoring her.

"She can now recognize people, but she still cannot talk and is weak," said Mubiru. Malende was first admitted at the Uganda Martyrs hospital in Lubaga Division, Kampala after she reportedly suffered a seizure while at her Kawempe residence on November 13.

While in Lubaga hospital, she was placed on oxygen but her condition worsened, prompting her transfer to the Aga Khan hospital on November 20. She was accompanied by Mubiru, her mother Jane-Francis Nassuuna, and fiancée Shamiru Ssebunya.

Malende has been at the forefront of demanding justice for the detained supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party and would spend most of her time in court. She is also part of the legal team representing her jailed colleagues; Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya who are facing charges related to terrorism before the International Crimes Division of the High court.

A strange chemical? OMG that is alarming. What chemical could it be and how did she ingest it?

The how should be the main question and who served it is also interesting. Police should investigate.

1- All our prayers for the young flower of our nation.

2- Indeed Mayor of Kampala E. Lukwago was also rushed to the same hospital with a similar medical experience, Hon Nebbanda had similar attack but never made it.

3- The renowned Tunyefuza once retorted that Generals , or Ministers attend important meetings with their water bottles in their coat..

4- In short the country is dealing with a callous ,primitive ,greedy, senseless, arrogant and shameless cabal which can do anything in broad day light.

We wish her quick recovery and back to work.

But I hope the Malende of this country have not already adopted the Tibuhaburwas of this country's, attitude and arrogance that he does not trust "Ugandans medical doctors" with his and members of family's health (VIP syndrome and vanity/).

Otherwise, in my strongest opinion, Mulago National Referral Hospital is still the best hospital to go. If medicine and medical training and practice is universally guided by the same Medical School Rule Book; I see no reason why the Honorable was not referred to Mulago NRH.

In other words, where should Ugandans (bantu wa wansi) go with a similar, Malende's medical condition? If our leaders do not trust our doctors, why in the first place are they being trained from here at our our cost (parents and/or tax payers)?

Shame on us!

I wish her a quick recovery.

It seems hectic as these legal brains in Uganda are feeling the whirlwind of legitimizing one of the four national constitutions that have been introduced in Uganda since the country's emancipation from the slavery of colonialism!

One hopes that most people learn from their past mistakes and able to observe after all that the law is an ass?

Hello Shamim, We pray that you will experience God's love and know that He is close by.

We want to let you know that we are all thinking about you and want to demonstrate that we care because you are our own in this struggle to take on the dictator and his "killer son". Your assistance in this battle has been truly admirable!
