A 20-year-old South Sudanese girl has jumped to death from the 4th floor of her apartment in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire identifies the deceased as Nyameisha Kueth, who has been staying with her stepmother in Nabweru. According to Owoyesigyire, Nyameisha was seen by the security guard climbing up the building before jumping to her death.
Owoyesigyire says that police visited the scene and took the deceased’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
It is alleged that Nyameisha disappeared from home on Tuesday, which prompted her brother to file a case of a missing person at Nabweru police station.
She later returned home before she ended her life at around 6:00 am today morning. Last week on July 9, a 33-year-old Alice Babirye jumped to her death from the window of the sixth floor of Kawempe National Referral hospital after undergoing a C-section.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year, and for each death, there are more than 20 suicide attempts.
A report by the ministry of Health, Uganda National Institute Public Health (UNIPH) Quarterly Epidemiological Bulletin, indicates that Uganda has a high suicide rate of 18.67 per cent.
