Police in Kakumiro has launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly brutally murdered her co-wife.
The suspect has only been identified as Kyalimpa, a resident of Kakayo village in Kasambya sub-county in Kakumiro while the deceased is Catherine Atuhaire, 26, a resident of the same area.
The two were wives to Emmanuel Twamuhebwa a resident of the same area. It is alleged that on March 29 at around 2 pm while in Kakayo, the duo picked a misunderstanding over unknown reasons and in the process, Kyalimpa picked an axe that she used to hit Atuhaire several times on the head. She died on spot.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says the two women were living in the same house but in different rooms. He says area residents and local leaders rushed to the scene of crime only to find Atuhaire’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
He says after committing the gruesome act, Kyalimpa varnished to yet an unknown destination. According to Hakiza, police has launched investigations into the matter to ascertain what could have happened adding that once arrested, the suspect will be arraigned before the court to be charged with murder.
Meanwhile, the body was picked by police and later taken to Kakumiro health centre IV for postmortem.
