Col Shaban Bantariza has been laid to rest

Col. Shaban Bantariza, the former government deputy spokesperson has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kagorogoro cell, Mitooma district.

Bantariza, 57,  succumbed to coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Monday at Mulago hospital. His burial was restricted to only family members, selected UPDF officers, a few clergy and five choir members.

There was also strict observation of the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), with only twenty people allowed to occupy a tent. At the entrance, two checkpoints were manned by both the army and police officers who were checking the body temperatures and also sanitizing the few mourners.

Residents of Kagorogoro cell were asked to keep a distance of about 100 meters away from the burial ground. Bantariza was given an 18-gun-salute as his body was lowered into the grave.

President Yoweri Museveni, who was represented by Gen Kahinda Otafiire described Bantariza as a trustworthy, patient, and a hero who has never betrayed his country.

Museveni reiterated his calls to Ugandans to observe the ministry of Health guidelines that prevent the spread of Covid-19. He castigated people who have failed to adhere to the guidelines and those who say there is no covid-19 in the country.

“We tell you to wear a mask, you call it a joke, wash your hands, you call it a joke, cover your nose, you call it a joke, please social distance you hear people say there is no corona, but the virus is there and it kills," Museveni said.

Ofwono Opondo, the executive director, Uganda Media Center described the late Banatariza, as approachable and passionate about his country.

“Being multi-talented, linguistic and his expensive background in public relations and administration, he was always available at short notice for duty and never hesitated to share information with colleagues and the country," he said.

Bantariza is survived by 12 children.

I think Museveni confuses Uganda with him. His claim that the late never betrayed his country is not only laughable but mendacious as well.

Anyone who has everything possible to keep Museveni and NRM in power has betrayed Uganda. Museveni Ang his bag carrying foot soldiers are demagogueS who always wants to define the issue.

A man who threatens unarmed opposition with violence if they try to loosen his grip on power commits is steeped in treachery.

His last act before he departed this world was to remind that he had three guns that he was willing to use if he was asked to surrender power. So let the old man not confuse loyalty to the nation with loyalty to him.

May his soul be in peace. But of the 12 children from many different wives; including education and forced marriage of one of the daughters; Banta abandoned two of his daughters and their mother to: To Whom It May Concern.

In other words, right from the bushes of Luweero Banta are the type of Heroes Mr. M7 has been breeding. Like Mafias or Prostitutes, they maintain the perfect gentlemen/lady appearance, but they are ethically and morally bankrupt and domestically dysfunctional.

Quoting Wainanchi:
Deepest condolences for the fallen gallant officer Bantariza.RIP!!;

In other words Wainanchi, like Hitler's genocide propaganda machine/mouthpiece Paul Joseph Goebbels; Col Shaban Banta was Mr. M7's Joseph Goebbels propaganda machine/mouthpiece, which has apparently fallen apart.

if being "gallant" has to do telling lies in order to keep a fascist dictator in power; then Banta and those after him like Wainainchi will head straight to hell without a stop in Limbo for a tea-break and counseling.

A k Mukasa, thanks.

Ugandans MUST end Museveni's rule in UNITY, to give him no chance to continue using them against one another & rule for life & his family busienss continues!

Bobi Wine MUST become that just 1 National Leader, without which, change will never come!

But of course, Ugandans can form Independent Tribal States & each tribe will have to ensure Museveni doesn't set feet on their land!

Yet, bringing down the tribalistic system & UNITY would be the safest way to end Museveni's diabolical rule, then Ugandans will go for the kind of governance they want without war!

Lakwena, thanks.

You described the situation so well & this is why Ugandans MUST end Museveni's rule to give the next generation chance to a different Uganda!

What is there as story/history of Uganda for the 34 year old, born raised under Museveni, if they are not given chance to know a different country without Museveni & what do they teach their own kids?
