Uganda's registers 16 new COVID-19 cases

Uganda’s COVID-19 cases have risen to 927 after another 16 new cases tested positive. The new cases were confirmed from 5,133 samples tested on Friday - the highest number tested thus far. 

11 of the cases were from samples picked from truck drivers at different points of entry while five cases were picked from contacts in Amuru and Namisindwa districts. 

42 foreign truck drivers also tested positive for COVID-19. The rise in COVID-19 cases is being recorded in other countries and not just Uganda. 

The number of reported cases on the African continent as of Saturday stands at 450,658, 10,920 deaths with 217,705 recoveries recorded. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the majority of the continent's cases come from the Southern part of the continent.

🔹 Angola recorded one more death (total 18) and 13 new cases (total 328)
🔹 Botswana recorded 50 (total 277)

North Africa

🔹 Egypt recorded 81 new deaths (total 3201) and 1,412 new infections (total 72,711)
🔹 Algeria recorded 9 new deaths (total 937) and 413 new infections (total 15,070)
🔹 Morocco registered one new death (230) and 319 new cases (total 13,288)
🔹 Tunisia recorded 3 new infections (total 1,181)
🔹 Mauritania recorded 99 cases (total 4,705)

East Africa/Central Africa

🔹 Sudan recorded 2 new deaths (total 604) and 90 new cases (total 9,663)
🔹 DRC registered 3 more deaths (total 179) and 122 new infections (total 7,311)
🔹 Kenya recorded its 154th death and 247 new infections (total 7,188)
🔹 Djibouti recorded 21 more new infections (total 4,736)

🔹 Central Africa Republic registered one more death (total 48) and 130 new infections (total 3,918)
🔹 Mayotte recorded 11 new infections (total 2,661)
🔹 Madagascar recorded the 26th death and 109 new infections (total 2,512)
🔹 Congo recorded 3 more deaths (total 44) and 175 new infections (total 1,557)
🔹 Cape verde registered 81 new infections (total 1,382)
🔹 Rwanda recorded 18 new infections (total 1,081)
🔹 Burundi recorded 21 new infections (total 191)

West Africa

🔹 Nigeria recorded 12 new deaths (total 628) and 454 new infections (total 27,564)
🔹 Ghana recorded 1,254 new infections (total 19,388)
🔹 Ivory registered 2 new deaths (total 70) and 252 new infections (total 10,244)
🔹 In Senegal there was a further 4 more deaths (total 125) and 110 new infections (total 7,164)
🔹 Gabon recorded 2 more deaths (total 44) and 107 new infections (total 5,620)

🔹 Guinea recorded 71 new infections (total 5521)
🔹 Equatorial Guinea recorded 19 new deaths (total 51) and 1,070 new infections (total 3,071)
🔹 Mali recorded 25 new infections (total 2285)

🔹 Guinea Bissau recorded its 25th death and 111 new infections (total 1,765)
🔹 Sierra Leone registered 2 new deaths (total 62) and 6 new infections (1,524)
