Govt rejects Bobi Wine's offer to airlift Ugandans stuck in China

The government has told Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to back off from his plans of repatriating Ugandans stuck in China.

In a letter dated April 15 and addressed to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Bobi Wine, said he has partnered with an American media owner and businessman Neil Nelson to evacuate 285 Ugandans and other black Africans currently stuck in China.

Africans in China have come under coronavirus discrimination and attack with some of them evicted from their houses and hotels while others are denied entrance into restaurants and supermarkets. They have been accused of bringing coronavirus to China where the first reported COVID-19 cases were recorded in December 2019.

Following the coronavirus outbreak, Uganda closed its airport in March for all inbound and outbound travellers. Ugandans stuck in China have appealed to the government to be returned back home.

Bobi Wine in his letter to Rugunda, asked the government to allow the Ugandans into the country, saying they have secured a privately chartered Quantum Jet Airbus A330-200. Bobi Wine further said the returnees would be taken care of by him and Nelson while in quarantine.

In response, however, the government has however asked Bobi Wine, to leave foreign affairs matters to President Yoweri Museveni. Minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem questioned how Bobi Wine would meet the quarantine costs. Oryem also wondered if Bobi Wine will also transport Ugandans stuck in other parts of the world.

The minister says the responsibility of protecting the Ugandans abroad, lies with the head of state.

“If any Ugandan succeeds and achieves, it’s the responsibility of the president of Uganda, if any Uganda dies abroad, this is also the responsibility of the president of Uganda. Does he have the capacity to be held responsible for all of this, no? This is a foreign policy issue that you do not just wake up to do” Oryem said on phone.

According to Oryem, the government is currently registering Ugandans abroad; in America, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.

Joel Ssenyonyi the spokesperson People Power says that Bobi Wine and his partners will cater for all of the costs, including quarantine and feeding. He says the government should not ignore its citizens suffering abroad.

"The honourable Kyagulanyi together with a couple of other friends will bring people in and meet their entire cost - quarantine and everything. To say that this is cheap popularity, I think is madness for any government to ignore its people suffering in any country, and then someone decides to help and they say it is cheap popularity. Okay, if it is cheap popularity, let then be the ones to bring these Ugandans back. That is what we have been saying, that is what these Ugandans have been saying. We would have reached out to people with the means to do this, we shouldn’t be the ones doing this but government has ignored them and said you suffer,"

Betty Aol Ocan, the Leader of Opposition says that Bobi Wine's offer is based on humanitarian grounds and not for politics.

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine,

You don't need permission from migrant Museveni to help Ugandans! You MUST call tribal leaders to stand down & UNITY of our people will give chance to put in place an administration, organise real election or, if Ugandans want their tribal leaders in posts, they will have to go for Independent Tribal States immediately!

After 34 years, why would migrant Museveni who believes Uganda belongs to him by right of birth, let you help a people he destroyed, reduced to slavery, just as he planned from start?

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, you MUST UNITE Ugandans for second Independence, knowing the coutry is formed by our tribal lands & Museveni has no legitimacy in continuing terrorising, oppressing, dictating, owning tax money, controlling every institution!

Wooden K., thanks.

Museveni came to power through lies when it was him causing terror & luered Ugandans in a death trap! But our people can get out of it TOGETHER!

Mp Bobi Wine has no right to address nor sing to Ugandans, no right to help Ugandans, but migrant Museveni does, why & with whose tax money?

Why does being a migrant legitimise Museveni to be the only one to rule & decide who can help Ugandans?

Why do Ugandans prefer Museveni to 1 of their own, knowing no Ugandan will ever dare own any tribal land?

Why are tribal leaders ensuring the tribalistic system & why are Ugandans going along, knowing no outsider will ever say a word against Museveni as long as Ugandans are alright with the system that goes against International Principle?

Why don't Ugandans want help that only their UNITY will give chance to?

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine,

There has never been a better moment than NOW, for UNITY around that just 1 National Leadear without which, Ugandans have no chance to UNITE & block Museveni!

Museveni is not just a colonial conqueror but a terrorist who enjoys suffering of people!

But Uganda is formed by our tribal lands & terrorist Museveni has no right, no legitimacy, no land to call his in it, thus no right to rule through the tribalistic system that ensures his continuity!

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the moment you call tribal leaders to stand down & to UNITY of Ugandans, you won't be just Uganda National Leader, but part of today world & developed well governed countries will side with you/Ugandans & won't continue watching in silence!

The tribalistic system MUST be brought down FIRST& above all, then UNITY for second Independence!

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine,

Growing up under Museveni & the thirst to see a different Uganda, help give a different atmosphere to your kids & every Ugandan kid should give you the energy to ensure change is seen before you are an old man with Museveni still ruling, looting, oppressing, owning Uganda tax money!

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the tomorrow in a different Uganda for the next generation MUST be put in place & now is the best time, as Museveni is confined in State House/s & MUST be so while Ugandans UNITE & block him for good!

Police/army should know they are NOTHING, but tools used by Museveni to terrorise their own people, which make the bodies more inhuman than Museveni

Only UNITY will leave police/army no choice but go with Museveni to his tribal land or become Ugandans' security forces!

MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, be that National Leader!

Quoting Odongkara:
Or have you been training mercenaries abroad and you what to bring them to the battlefield under the guise of bringing home "Ugandans and other Africans" being mistreated in China?

Be careful my friend because your political enemy can exactly use this accusations to mudsling you and internationally and domestically destroy you. Don't say you were not warned.

Do those destitute Africans stuck in China look like mercenaries?

If China was willing to train mercenaries, why would it change mind and throw them on the streets? Does your reasoning make any sense?

I'm not saying that the stranded Africans, whom I don't believe are destitutes, are the "mercenaries". Under my use of the statement "under the guise".

Quoting Wooden K.:
Think smart Odongokara !
Avoid this silly nonsense about "training mercenarities"
Think think think Ogongokara

Brother Wooden I do think and smart too FYI. All that you have listed are common knowledge and it is not an outside the box thinking during these unpredictable times when Covid-19 pandemic is on rampage and elections are around the corner.

What can stop Museveni and his psychophants from hatching such a ludicrous allegation? Let me tell you point blank there is nothing stopping them as long as it serves their greed for power.

I'm thinking hard and perhaps you can do better and up your hard working mind which I very much respect.

Quoting Wooden K.:
it takes a brain to notice that Bobi Wine is Museveni`s jumpstarter .
Of course it is stupid for Ondogokara to even imagiine that it is appropriate to bring up the question of mercenaries ; unfortunately , that is how weak brained some of our people are.

Call them "weak brained" or whether you want but one fact is you don't think outside the normal. In critical thinking you can't rule out worst case scenarios!

You can't label any thoughts "stupid" if you are strong brained and as a reminder nobody has any moral right to term anybody's opinion/thought stupid. This is helpful I hope.

Ladit Odongokara , good afternoon !

Read your first comment ; you will then see where you went wrong.

Okey , there is nothing to stop Museveni from hatching allegations ; and your suggestion is what …... that Bobi Wine should stop talking or doing what he thinks needs to be done. !?

You are asking Bobi Wine to Cook an omelette as long as he doesn`t brake some eggs ?

Ladit , we all know what Museveni is capable of doing . Remember that Bobi Wine was arrested , badly beaten up , his driver shot , accused of illegally keeping two guns in his Hotel room etc etc.

Surely , framing him for trying to import mercenaries from China would shock nobody.

What I am telling you is that Bobi Wine , or anybody who wants to see change in Uganda must be aware and be prepared for all kinds of ludicrous allegations.

Scare-mongering is a tactic that only helps Museveni
