Mayiga: Why local companies collapse

Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga used the recent launch of Sekanyolya Systems’ new corporate office at Kingdom mall in Kampala to offer a few tips on how local top-tier businesses can thrive or collapse.

Mayiga said local companies can compete and grow their businesses to sustainable levels if they lay keen emphasis on producing quality products. He urged businesspeople to serve their clients with integrity.

“If you shortchange people, you won’t stay long in business. Successful entrepreneurs value their customers and don’t look for overnight success,” he said, adding that Uganda is a very entrepreneurial country but businesses don’t last because a lot of people don’t do long-term planning and don’t think big.

He said, “A lot of businesspeople divert money and live luxurious lifestyles before their businesses grow, leading to their early demise.”

Mayiga praised Eria Zizinga and his wife Sylvia Zizinga who started Sekanyolya Systems more than 25 years ago.

“Mr Zizinga has been in business for a long time and I am happy to have seen them start and grow. There is a lot we can learn from them and if they can continue serving their customers with integrity, they will achieve more,” he added.

Joy Zizinga, the company’s business development manager, unveiled popular dancehall star Sheebah Karungi as the new company’s brand ambassador as they continue moving into the digital security world in a fast-changing world.

“I am happy that even between my shows late in the night; I can pull out my phone and see what is happening at my home. I am happy to be a brand ambassador for this indigenous Ugandan brand,” singer Sheebah said.

Sekanyolya Systems is the pioneer distributor in Uganda of security systems such as CCTV cameras and remote- controlled gates.
