Woman shoots dead brother while 'playing' with his pistol

A Glock pistol

A controversial Kampala businessman, Ali Abdul Jabar, 36, was yesterday shot dead by his own sister using his own pistol at the Kampala Independent hospital in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.

According to police, the incident happened at around 10.30 am on Saturday when Jabar's sister, Zaina Karama asked to 'have a look' at his Glock pistol registration number UG IND BONK 444 03175.

Jabar and Zaina were at the hospital to visit Fatuma Jabar, Jabar's wife, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in the VIP section after undergoing a successful C-Section delivery.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Zaina saw Jabar with the pistol and asked to have a look at it.

Zaina reportedly started to play with the pistol and mock shoot but without holding the trigger - prompting Jabar into cautioning her. He then removed the magazine before handing back the pistol to the sister thinking it was now safe.

"Little did he know that there was a bullet in the chamber. She pointed the pistol at Jabar and abruptly the pistol discharged a bullet in the right chest of Jabar," said Owoyesigyire.

Police said the victim was rushed in the theatre for an operation but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Zaina who is now a murder suspect, collapsed and is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the same Independent hospital.

"The bullet stuck inside him. Case of murder by shooting opened CRB 309/2019 of Ntinda police station," said Owoyesigyire.

I was feeling sympathy for him but after watching the NTV YouTube video, I feel anger towards him and our authorities.

It seems to me that no one really escapes natural justice.

Now here is my billion dollar question. How did Mr. Jabar RIP get a gun and yet he obviously didn't understand the safety rules nor did he know how a gun operates?

Here are some basic rules. (1) treat every weapon as if it were loaded (2) never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to shoot

(3) keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire. Those are just a few. Obviously, there is something lacking in the administration of the gun processes in Uganda. No surprise.

Just another criminal taken out of action. Big questions should be directed to Jeje Odongo about giving criminals a field day in Uganda.

He can’t deny as there’s documented evidence linking him to this criminal, he was even amongst those who went to the hospital where he was killed! Shameless criminals manning our country’s security!

Criminals are armed and let to terrorise us within our country! Why? Museveni is indeed no longer in control as her minister, Nantaba said! So sad.

Tragic as it was and will be: those who live by the sword/gun will perish by the same.

In other words, guns everywhere as if the country is at war with itself. But ironically they tell us there is peace (peach) everywhere.

Since the evil of gun culture has been ushered in by the NRM leadership, Ugandans should brave themselves to live with that evil.

Otherwise, only the Devil knows, why anybody should go with a gun into a hospital. The hospital authority is also culpable.

It beggars belief that this "slave driver" was given a licence to trade in present day Uganda by Jeje Odongo; he should shoulder full responsibility.

You see these 'wakosa kabila' have been used to slaughter innocent Ugandans under the pretexts they didn't belong and seemed 'neutral' during Amin's regime, Obote 1&2 and now.

The fact that they spoke several languages enabled them to secure employment for intelligence gathering among unsuspecting Ugandans and also 'empowering' them to abuse this position with excessive powers.

Field Marshall Okello will today be turning in his grave, wondering how these lot escaped through the Zanzibar purge.

One Obote once said Museveni likes to play with guns.

He even keeps one under his pillow at night. One day it might go off accidentally or strip on it..
