Two people have been shot dead along the Kampala-Entebbe Express highway.
Police had initially indicated that killed woman was Florence Maya Kamikazi, a Rwandan national but it has since revised the name and nationality to Merina Tumukunde, a Ugandan married to Mark Rugyenza. According to police, Tumukunde was found in a sitting position in her car with a single bullet wound on her head.
She was shot dead alongside her bodyguard Joshua Nteyireho Ruhegyera at around 10:30 pm on Thursday near Nambigirwa bridge, towards Mpala, Katabi Town Council. According to an eyewitness in Mpala Isma Kimera, the deceased were waylaid by two unidentified men.
The deceased were travelling in a black Prado registration number UAW 534B heading to Entebbe and an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used to kill the two was found at the scene.
According to police, the rifle is their own and was assigned to police constable Davis Taremwa, who was with the duo at Millenium hotel in Zana for a car sale transaction hours before they got shot. Taremwa has since been arrested to assist with the investigations.
