The chaplaincy of St Augustine at Makerere University has released video footage showing the theft of offertory and church equipment.

Fr. Josephat Ddungu, the chaplain of St. Augustine Church, says unidentified thug broke into the chapel on the night of August 12 at around midnight and made off with an unspecified sum of money, laptop, extension cables, boxes where the offertory for Mother Mary and Radio Maria are kept among other things.

He says they released CCTV footage to the public on social media on Sunday to help in the identification of the thief.

"So we're able to see him on CCTV camera footage and that is the video clip that we're circulating right now because he looks familiar from the way he went around he seems to have knowledge of where we keep our stuff," said Fr Ddundgu.

He says the same footage was shared with police on Monday morning to aid investigations. Fr. Ddungu however, couldn’t tell how much money was in the stolen offertory boxes. St Augustine Chapel is a catholic church that is a student spiritual congregating place at Makerere University.

It is one of the worship places at the university in addition to the Anglican Chapel Francis and the Makerere student Mosque.

Well well well !!!!

this one will be picked up tonight . Many people have recognized him .

Someone has questioned the suggestion that if the thief had knowledge of the place where they kept the stuff , why didn`t he know there was a security camera there ?

My answer is that even if Assange was a very smart thief who would steal information from the most sophisticated systems , he missed or forgot to work out an exit plan .

In other words Wooden, crime like theft is a product of incompetence and/ore mental disorder. Which is why criminals are the most unreasonable persons (stupid).

Good for them, finally somebody has tought them a lesson never to forget, for years, the Church has been robbing their congregation in the name of god.

I have seen instances where the preacher ensures that the basket does three rounds and at the end of the service, some people have parted with their own transport to please "G/god" and before we know it, the priest/Rev/Pastor.

Apostle, Bishop/Prophet etc is driving the latest V8 yet he does not have any known source of income, my foot

Yes lakwena , all thieves have a blindside . That is what competent crime investigators look for .

Because of rampant tribalism , Uganda does not have any compent , smart , and professional crime investigators anymore .

Dokita Satire`s cartoon vividly illustrates what kind of police we have today.

Wagada Roger , maybe you are confusing your Church with the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church does not robb its congregation . Instead , the Catholic Church Invests a lot in Projects that benefit , not only its congregation , but the whole society in general . This is the case everywhere in the World except Suad Arabia.

Keep things in proper context if you may : St. Augustine Chapel in Makerera has been there for ages and has served generations of students and the public .

It has had many Chaplins , including the iconic Fr. Dr. Kanyike . But none of its former Chaplins owns even one brick of the Church .beacuse it belongs to the congregations , the past , the present and the future.

In fact , when Dr.Fr. Lawrence Kanyike was transfarred to Kyengera Parish , it was students and members of the congregation that raised money and bought him a fresher car . He cried !!!!

Save for your foot Wadada, but without generalizing, there are also exception. Except the Born Again (Dead again) churchers; in the adult churches (Catholic Orthodox and Anglican) there are priests and/or Bishops who still live up to the call.

E.g., Fr. Josephat Ddungu's predecessor; Fr. Lawrence Kanyike, is incredible. Now in Kyengera, it is humbling that Fr. Kanyike is still drives his 1980 Toyota Corolla station wagon.
