Several police commanders have failed in their supervisory roles because of accepting bribes from their juniors, the director Criminal Investigations (CID), Grace Akullo has revealed.

Speaking at the closure of a five-day retreat for Criminal Investigations Commanders at the CID headquarters at Kibuli on Friday, Akullo said some police commanders accept gifts from their junior earned through bribery and corruption.

She noted that police commanders who accept gifts from their juniors can’t be in position to supervise them since they are compromised. Akullo also said some commanders have a tendency of parading suspects so that they can release them after paying bribes.

Speaking at the same event, the deputy inspector general of police, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, emphasized the need for integrity and truthfulness in investigations. Sabiiti asked CID commanders to be creative and read more to gain additional knowledge and skills. He said several officers are young but with very old minds while some old men have very young minds.

Failure by police to prevent and investigate crime, has seen the level of criminality skyrocket in recent years.

Unfortunately, a parallel agency will need to be created just like the anti corruption docket at state house.

That entity too will be compromised. We are at a point of no return. We are just looking on as our fate unfolds.

Well, this may sound like an insult but but i think all senior police officers act the way they do because they dont have authority, they get so many orders from above and nobody knows this person they call above

I think the worst racket is with traffic police, those who get a chance to go to the highways always collect bribes and a duty bound to take a certain amount to their superiors on a daily basis

In other words, it easy said than done!

In the current Uganda under a dishonest Mr. M7; including robbing Bank of Uganda, only the Devil knows what Afande Grace Akullo, her boss Ochola and Mr. M7 would do, if they were paid Shs.450,000 per month.

And when it comes to "the need for integrity and truthfulness"; Afande Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi should start from himself and preach the Gospel of truthfulness and integrity to his appointing authority.

Otherwise, he should shut up and give Ugandans a break! E.g., his appointment into the police as the Deputy IGP is dubious and an act of dishonesty, alias the absence of integrity and truthfulness.

I agree. The command line has "Short Circuits" built into it that bypass some commanders.

These people think everyone is sleeping!

The NRM government is built on corruption, nepotism, falsification if facts etc.

With such a foundation even if Museveni & co are given a hundred years, nothing right can come out of this lot except more destruction.
They are the worst this country has ever had.

Incompetent, greedy and insatiably criminal!
