Israeli firm reports first cannabis harvest from Uganda

Israeli firm, Together Pharma Limited has reported that it made a cannabis harvest from Uganda on Tuesday, despite a government announcement that the said license had been halted. This is according to a statement released to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange Authority Ltd, today.

The statement, which is signed by CEO Nissim Bracha, indicates that the company completed the first harvesting of cannabis inflorescences at its farm in Uganda on June 18 and sowed another 10 dunams on the company's farm in Uganda on the same day.

According to the statement, the harvested produce will be marketed to one of the European countries. Together Pharma Limited produces and exports medical cannabis around the world.

This report puts into suspicion, a pronouncement by state minister for Investment Evelyn Anite that the government had halted the company’s license. Anite said when she was told about the company’s license, she found that not a lot of research had been done before it was granted.

The Health minister, Jane Aceng also told URN in April that cabinet wants assurances from the company that growing medical marijuana wouldn't have a negative impact on the economy. The government said it had put a committee to look into the issue and report part back to the cabinet. That they would base on that report on whether to award licenses or not. This has not happened.

Initial reports indicated that the firm is working with a Ugandan company; Industrial Hemp Uganda Limited, which is linked to former Bunyaruguru County MP Benjamin Cadet.

On its website, Industrial Hemp Uganda Limited shows that it is already growing medical cannabis in the country. It states: “The company is primarily engaged in the growing and development of medical cannabis (medical marijuana) and cannabis products for industrial purposes in Uganda.”

However, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 2015, specifies that persons involved in the manufacture, production, sale, or distribution of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances commit an offence and are liable, on conviction, to a fine or imprisonment of as much as five years or both.

The law also prohibits the cultivation of any plant, including cannabis, from which narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances may be extracted, without permission from the Health minister.

The National Drug Policy and Authority Act, 1993 provides that "No person shall, without the written consent of the Health minister… cultivate any plant from, which a narcotic drug can be extracted".

The corrupt regime will do anything to earn money in order to keep itself in power. Uganda is importing cannabis seedlings from other European counties in the name of medical cannabis and then export it back to them.

Cannabis has always been growing naturally in some parts of the country and it was not used for profit as it's now. This how the corrupt regime operates and sustains itself,.

Those countries only exploit Uganda fertile soil to grow it for their consumers back home.
Like many things Uganda is always a mere conductive of illegal goods from all over the world because of it;s weak and corrupt leadership for just the love of money. They have sold the country out for a few silvers. .

Does this mean the government has been lying to us all along?

Someone should come forward and clarify the position before parliament and Uganda at large. This will then enable Ugandans to either "engage" in the venture officially or reject it.

I can see a "grey area" regarding the issue of control in this industry. The law should be made clear, full stop!

Lysol, agreed, but,

It's up to Ugandans to stop all this inhumanity, abuse, not only by Museveni, but foreign countries/companies taking advantage of corruption, dictatorship that makes the country place for all kind of illegal/unhealthy activities!

When will Ugandans wake up to take back their country, put in place the kind of governace they want, to be in control of what goes on in their country?

Are Ugandans aware Museveni has joined UN/ NGO in giving money to ensure tribalists Congolese killing one another & fleeying to Uganda are taken care of? UN says by today, 400,000 of them have entered Uganda.

Israel needs drugs to keep them alert as palestinians are always awake & take turns in spying to get the right moments to strike!

Ugandans will not only be replaced by rwandese, but by congolese... too!

See, UN/USA/EU/NGO come to help tribalists at war with themselves, but turn blind eyes-deaf ears to Ugandans'miseries because they are tribalistically divided & ruled officially, legally, constitutionally & are at peace with Museveni's divisive system of rule!

The intention of the so called investors is to exploit "natives" even if it means countless deaths of the natives they purport to help as long they make billions and transfer the proceeds to their countries .

They dupe the "leaders" by praising them for their impeccable vision when their malicious intentions are only beneficial to their people at home..

No sane person can believe that Israel with all its technology of growing food, tomatoes and other produce in the desert without any need to import, is incapable of growing njaga.

Cannabis can be grown like tomatoes but since they know that their people can misuse the drag resulting in killing them, they choose soft greedy targets like Uganda to grow the weed which is bound to be fatally misused by Ugandans.

The so called uganda "experts"in economics, finance" etc they dupe to make decisions are blindly greedy in only"eating" money as if life can be traded with money. Uganda has medically survived for ever without njaga.

Observer, why do you not remove this rubbish from your paper. Israel has colonized enough land from the Palestine people.

Why does it not grow its cannabis near its home counties? Uganda presently in its environmental catastrophe should not be in the great news of Zionist for accepting cannabis growing.

This is the sort of muddle USA and Israel have left in the South American countries. If the African politicians are now dealing in international drugs big time with these countries most probably using diplomatic bags, it is very unfortunate. Too bad that they are fooling the African people.

It seems that with this trade, if non Western country citizens drug dealers are caught dealing in drugs, they deserve a very long sentence in prison or their heads cut off.

Those citizens in Western countries dealing in drugs big time when caught are only warned never to do it again and they are forgiven.

Observer, what you are trying to say is that since Israeli is farming cannabis in Uganda, the international trade of cannabis will certainly profit this African country!

Mubiru, thanks.

As long as Museveni dictates, misrule, urinate on powerless Ugandans, our land is prey to all demons who what to keep their territories safe from drugs, especially drugs they pretend are good, but are not!

See how UN/EU resettled & continue to bring refugees in Uganda while ignoring our people tribalistically divided & ruled by the worst demon migrant the world has ever seen!

Eve, Bin Laden couldn't have a country to own & use as base to terrorise any one, but Museveni did & will finally replace Ugandans by refugees, with the help of UN/EU!

Is UNITY of Ugandans to throw Museveni out more dangerous than independent tribal states or reformed republic?

UN/EU will finally have Uganda as country for tribalists at armed wars they consider victims! Are they not encouraging more tribalists congolese in Uganda & organised to resettle them?
