Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) female employees will now get a fully paid 6 months maternity leave instead of the customary 3-months maternity leave.
In a new global family leave policy rollout, all Diageo (UBL’s parent company) female employees will get a minimum of 26 weeks of fully paid leave effective July 1, 2019.
In the same policy, male employees will be entitled to a minimum of four weeks paternity leave. The same policy is being implemented across the world in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
”We are committed to creating a fully inclusive and diverse workforce and we strongly believe that businesses play a significant role in shaping the future of society. Global businesses like Diageo must make bold moves on policies and the environments in which their employees work to ensure that the progress people deserve happens.” said Mairéad Nayager, Diageo chief human resource officer recently said.
Meanwhile, in the UK, all Diageo's 4500 employee parents are now eligible for the same fully-paid 26 weeks, retaining benefits and bonuses regardless of gender sexual orientation or whether they become parents biologically, via surrogacy or adopt.
Diego says it hopes "the policy will support employees to focus on the joy of raising a young family, while continuing to thrive at work, and ensuring women and men are supported to have time with their new baby regardless of where they live and work.”
