Fours Uganda People's Defence Forces  (UPDF) soldiers have been arrested in a foiled hotel robbery in Kampala.

The four were arrested by the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) in collaboration with the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) that guard the first family and VIPs. Without divulging details, UPDF spokesman, Brig Richard Karemire, confirmed that the soldiers had been arrested.

"We have arrested the would-be robbers. Investigations have commenced," Brig Karemire said in a short text to URN.

Nevertheless URN has since established that the arrested soldiers who had raided Fang Fang restaurant in the Central Business District of Kampala, include Corporal Majid Abbas, Lance Coporal Ivan Asiimwe, Private Joshua Chandini and army driver Ivan Opio.

Sources privy to the foiled robbery said ISO learnt about the robbery through the hotel staff member who secretly called for rescue as the quartet put everyone at gunpoint with two Sub Machine Guns (SMGs) loaded with over 300 bullets.

ISO sought help from SFC upon learning that the suspected robbers were armed. SFC, ISO and Police 999 patrol vehicle surrounded Fang Fang restaurant around at 1am and ordered the soldiers that had raided the hotel to surrender. Last week, three people were shot dead in a daylight armed robbery Cheap General Hardware shop in Nansana.

This should help us welcome Chinese tourists and investors.

I can categorically say, without fear of contradictions these brazen robberies are mostly carried out by state functionaries.

No mere criminal can’t stage an attack to the extent of closing off roads, within few meters from police posts, some in the city centres in broad day, without connections in the security agencies!

If anything these rampant robberies are more evidence that the centre can no longer hold, rogues from within are having a field day.

Museveni, has failed us on all fronts, and former president Mugabe observed, those who have always fronted Museveni as an intelligent man, have done so with a lot of exaggerations!

He is a simple soul, reminiscent of his extremely humble background, overwhelmed by the blank cheque Ugandans gave him, no wonder he has destroyed our country!

Going forwards, Ugandans must be ready to subject whoever comes in next to continuous checks to avoid a repeat of Museveni’s incompetences.

That is why some of us feel that this special People's military institution should change its name from UPDF to Uganda Army as all countries have a normal military army.

If soldiers are not being paid their salaries, yet they have families to look after in addition to other needs they have to meet, and you have entrusted them with guns which are firmly under their control, and they see a few connected wanainchi swimming in plenty like some others that said 9000 dollars was like pocket money to them....what else would you therefore expect the soldiers to do?

NOT that I am condoning what they do, only suggesting that the solution lies in paying ALL soldiers on time and give them a befitting salary.

Otherwise we seem to be back in those days when we used to hear soldiers being asked as follows: "should I give you a gun and a salary as well?"

From 1962 to April 1979 , we had 'Uganda Army' ; from April 1979 to January 1986, we had 'Uganda National Liberation Army(UNLA)'; and from January 1986 to 1995, we had 'National Resistance Army (NRA)', which was changed to UPDF (Uganda Peoples Defense Forces) following the promulgation of the 1995 constitution.

And I guess you know the reasons why the names of our armies have been changing.

Noah you are the one who need to use your head. There are bank robberies in first world countries but are not carried by soldiers/ police ir other state agencies that are paid by tax payer money.

Uganda is a failed state. I assume you have never been to a first world country. Note that middle east and Dubai are not first world countries. Please travel and learn
