Over 50,000 girls defiled in four years - police

At least 51,168 girls were defiled between 2014 and 2017 according to statistics from police's child and family protection unit (CFPU).

The breakdown shows that 6,960 cases were recorded in 2014, 5581 in 2015 and 5,707 in 2016. The statistics also show that the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) registered 14,985 and 17,935 defilement cases in 2017 and 2016 respectively.

Although the CFPU report doesn’t show the areas with the highest and lowest defilement cases, a report released by CID in 2018 lists Lira, Mbale, Gulu, Kibuku, Serere, Kamuli, Mubende, Buyende, Mayuge, Arua and Dokolo as the areas with the highest number of defilement cases.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, says most girls fall victim to sexual abuse during holidays at the hands of the people they live with in homes, communities and their relatives.

Police have since highlighted indicative signs of sexual abuse and urged parents to be conversant with them so that they can help their children before it is too late.

“A child might not verbally tell you that they have been abused, but they may say or do things that provide some clues. Some behavioral signs of child sexual abuse may include unexplained accumulation of money or gifts, disorderly eating or preoccupation with body,” Enanga says.

The other signs to look out for include aggression, property destruction, drug abuse, excessive compliance or a desire to be overly obedient, lack of confidence, persistent sexual themes in drawing, stories and plays among others.

Enanga says some parents have abandoned their children in their homes and don’t respond to their needs.

But since the Uganda Police's underwear is yellow; did the police hereabove get permission from the IGP to go on a peaceful demonstration?

In other words, is IGP Ochola continuing from where Gen Kayihura stopped? Just asking.

Otherwise, the current Kawukumi era of terror, torture, rape and murder against the opposition, can only remind us of former IGP Gen Kayihura, M7/NRM's best carder under, under whom rape defilement and murder of victims of rape remain unresolved..

This statistics mean about 417 girls (minors) were defiled monthly.

This raises several questions: how many of them have received justice, how many of the offenders have faced the law, how were these figures arrived at?

One sympathises with our daughters and granddaughters.

One is of the opinion that if these girl kids are given tax free smartphones and data cost is reduced for them so that they are in constant communication with their parents, part of this problem would certainly be solved.

On the face value this may look a good option but I don't think it will reduce on these cases of the girl-child defilements and if you are not careful what you wish for may make an already bad situation worse.

There is too much sex material found via the internet and with a smartphone you are leading this naive girl child into serious problems.

This is Uganda !! And youth wants freedoms to defile millions of young girls.?? What would happen if there is no law and order in Uganda?

What would happen if Ugandans had arms and weak police and military like in the past.? We would have seen repetition of horrendous times U am witness of those times in 1985 I was awaken by soldiers if Tito Okello one November early morning from Sunday to Monday when in the heart of Kampala soldiers raped thee daughters of one priest Ask your mum and dad's and jajas what was happening then.

Understood.

Especially if you are out of Uganda to protect your children, ensure they have chance to better life!

I con't see how Ugandans living in Europe/USA would take their chidren to Uganda, knowing no outsider is concerned about how Ugandans live as it's them letting Museveni on through the tribalistic system that shuts outsiders out!

Yet, even when Ugandans don't want to Reform the Republic, only their UNITY will FREE them from Museveni!

Then Ugandans will go for Independent Tribal States & tribal leaders will have the place they hang on to in tribal lands that will be made countries running their affairs!

Why are Ugandans keeping Museveni on?

It is preached all around the world than one should try and become a dual citizen.

Truly Uganda is a personal business and the only protection it provides is to the ones benefiting.

What happens to the small guys is inconsequential. Have one foot in Uganda and the other in some other developed country.

Police has been wearing these same coffee color uniforms for a long time, to be different from thuggery blue coloured unforms worn during Obote and Okellos time!!

Wouldnt you dream that those ugly times abck when Olara Otunnu , Kizza Ezza, Bobi Dingo Smoking Weed and Loser would run Uganda.?
