Bobi Wine charged, remanded to Luzira prison

Bobi Wine in court today

Bobi Wine in court today

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who was arrested today enroute to police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Kibuli, has been charged with disobedience of statutory duty and remanded to Luzira prison until May 2.

Bobi Wine who was accompanied by a mammoth crowd, was arrested today near the Mulago roundabout and driven to Nagalama police station in Mukono district from where he was driven back to the city centre to Buganda Road court to appear before Grade One magistrate Esther Nahirya.

He pleaded not guilty and has been charged alongside disc joker (DJ) David Lule, Julius Katongole a student and resident of Namasuba, his brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu and his bodyguard, Edward Sebufu alias Eddie Mutwe.

The state alleges that when on July 11, 2018 the accused and others still at large, held a public meeting (anti-social media tax demo) without notifying police contrary to provisions of the Public Order Management Act (POMA). The state further alleges that the accused, refused to coordinate and cooperate with police to ensure that all participants in the demonstration were unarmed and peaceful.

Bobi Wine, together with a group of other activists, last year, held a demonstration in downtown Kampala against the Shs 200 excise duty for use of Over the Top (OTT) services (commonly known as social media tax), saying it was unfair since Ugandans were already paying for taxes on airtime. Bobi Wine, then managed to evade arrest when he disguised himself and jumped on a random boda boda straight to parliament where MPs enjoy immunity from arrest.

2019 arrest

Predictably, Bobi Wine on his way to Kibuli to honour the police summons was joined by a mammoth crowd which paralysed traffic flow for some time in Kalerwe, Bwaise and some parts of Kamwokya and Mulago. He'd been summoned by police for defying the inspector general of police's orders on Easter Monday when he was barred from holding a music concert at his One Love Beach in Busabala last week.

Police fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the charged supporters who hurled stones at security in return. The youthful protested also blocked off several roads leading out of town. Bobi Wine defiantly drove Busabala to what he claimed was to address the media about his next course of action since police had blocked or cancelled at least 124 of his concerts in the last two years.

He was arrested and placed under house arrest until Friday last week. Bobi Wine has since called for massive protests against President Museveni's government.

My brothers in the struggle Wooden K. and juwait kali, I totally agree with you that in times of desperacy we need to consider all options.

Indeed we have chaos created by M7 for it is through chaos that the former bandit and guerilla survives. And knowing that chaos is M7’s modus operandi, why do we allow him have an upper hand in what he knows best?

My argument is: Why Mao vs Besigye; DP vs ANT; FDC vs UPC….Akot vs Wooden K…etc in the chaos? Can we concentrate our chaos into one folder and face it directly at the leopard, in which case the momentum will push him out?

Indeed it can be true that the likes of Muntu, Bwanika could be moles like Betty Olivia Namisango Kamya (a.k.a BONK), Atim Beatrice Anywar (ABA), Amongi Anita (A.A) were before they were undressed. But how much energy will be left for flooring M7 after getting rid of the “moles”?

Kelly Ssebo !

How can I agree with a falsehood !

Katikkiro Mayiga has never said what you quote him to have said. He only compared two "evils"

In case you dont know ,Amin killed his older sister , Thereza ; Museveni abducted and tortured him mentally together with Hon. Sseggona and Hon. Nambooze.

All the tree are still alive and doing things to help our people. You must be Deep asleep if you do not know what Nakagereka has done and is doing for the Children and women of Buganda / Uganda.

She did not suddenly realize what the Health / social sector is lacking when her Dad passed away.

Now , I suggest that you go to Youtube and listen very very carefully what Katikkiro Mayiga said during the recent "Marathon".

Kelly Kelly Kelly !!!!!!

Comment #26 , you declare that you will never keep quiet knowing very well where the problem is

Comment#30 , you demand that Bobi Wine and others should stop attacking Besigye.

Should then I take it that your sister , Nakku, is smarter than you ?

How do you know that Bobi Wine and others "do not know fully well where the problem (Besigye) is ?

They could also borrow your claim and declare that they can`t stay quiet when a man who stands 4 times says that electons do not work ?

Kelly Kelly Kelly !!!!

Comment #30 , you agree with The Thinker that demonstrations and procession (without a plan) will not do anything to Museveni.

Same comment , you turn around and say that we should not worry about how long it takes or whether we will realize it in our lifetime etc etc.

What an amuzing contradiction !!!!

When and where did the Sudan people sit down and made a "clear plan" in how to get rid of their own dictator ?

Haven`t they been doing processions and demonstrations for more than 20 years ?
