Embattled Makerere Institute for Social Research (MISR) research fellow, Dr Stella Nyanzi is unable to raise her legal fees and is now appealing for financial help from the public.

Nyanzi was arrested on November 2 on charges related to abusing President Yoweri Museveni and his late mother Esteri Kokundeka. Nyanzi has not been formally presented in court yet. Ahead of the expected court process, Nyanzi's family members and friends are now appealing for financial assistance to 'help take Nyanzi through this misfortune'.
They claim that since being suspended by the university in March 2017 for attacking the First Lady also Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni, Nyanzi hasn't received any salary since.

"Dr. Stella Nyanzi needs your help to pay her legal fees. 0771-824-117 is her personal number. 0757-200-204 is her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde's number. Both numbers are registered on mobile money. If you can, send with the reason 'Legal Fees'. Thank you." Marvin Saasi, a close confidant of Nyanzi, posted on his Facebook timeline.

Saasi, who was part of Nyanzi's legal team told The Observer that the embattled researcher has never received any money from Makerere since her first suspension contrary to the terms of the suspension where she was bound to receive half pay.

"It is hard to believe such, I know. But that is the truth and that is why she can't afford legal fees" Saasi said.

Saasi also disclosed that the university has also since disregarded a directive by the staff appeals tribunal to pay Nyanzi all her outstanding salary arrears within 10 working days. On October 2, the staff appeals tribunal directed the university to immediately reinstate Nyanzi back in her position and also pay all her arrears.

When contacted, Makerere University public relations officer Ritah Namisango told The Observer that she could not authoritatively comment on a matter that is still being decided on.

Namisango said that when the university tribunal and the appointments board concludes Nyanzi's matters, they will send out official communication to her and all the concerned parties in the matter.

Ono naye tatukoya, always in trouble because of her failure to control her emotions and mouth. Let her go to prison as she awaits her salary to accumulate

It is clear that these two Ganda intellectuals, Nyanzi and Ddumba cannot see eye to eye.

It is better that M/s Nyanzi accept her unemployment status and try to apply for another job in the many other Universities around the world. You do not argue with a fool. Those who see cannot see the difference!

The insanely blinkered tribalists, passing as "nationalists" look at anything in the prism of "tribalism" Nyanzi's controversy at Makerere is not remotely connected with any tribe for any one to say"these two GANDA" intellectuals.

Where say two BANYANKOLE are in similar conflict, as they often are the writer could never describe them as the NYANKOLE intellectuals.

Just because Baganda are deafeningly and politely silent it doesn't mean they are going to be beaten right, left or centre by the supposedly educated bashers.

We never called any body Nyankole, Soga, or Nyoro, Why keep on antagonizing us by calling us stupid names?

Akot always intelligently plead for unity but unity is a pipe dream when people are sunk into the swamp of bigotry and hatred against other innocent tribes. Muky. Nyanzi much as I understand your feelings, such hysterical insults against the head of state and his family are useless and are of no effect. Stop them to avoid your present predicament.

It is unbelievable how some if you rats express respect and admiration for mentally deranged persons.

Stella Nyanzi is psychiatric case and she should be locked in psychiatric unit forever.

Throwing obscene insults and asking that vagina canals are properly translated in Luganda and then shouting derangly!

The presiding judge was not up to her job. She should immediately order court security to take loony to psychiatric ward for specialist care.

Uganda judges must be trained to recognise mental illnesses, and to confirm my statement just read about rising mentally relating illnesses amongst young Ugandans.

Noone is immune from mental problems, anyone call fall in the trap of this or that sort of mental problems and the society must help those endangered people.

Stella Nyanzi was treated in mental hospital and is still unable to function as a normal person.

I appeal to the ministry of justice and authorities in charge of Uganda judiciary to allocate specialist psychiatrist in case like this.

I hear the is an organization always trumped in the media that it provides free legal services to the poor victims who admittedly can't afford to pay.

I thought this is the very time for the organization not to bury its head in the sand but rescue, the "unemployed" Nyanzi from the present predicament.

I believe if she settles her problems with Makerere and gets paid she will be able to pay back the fees meant for the poor. Where are these lawyers who publicise themselves as helpers of the poor Ugandans?
