Two Israeli tourists injured in Mabira taxi robbery

Two tourists are nursing injuries after they were attacked by robbers in Mabira forest along the Kampala-Jinja highway.

The two Israeli nationals, Itai Barsinai, 32, and his girlfriend Shakid Jil, 30, were traveling from Bujagali Falls in Jinja district on Monday evening.

They reportedly boarded a taxi from Amber Court Gardens, which, however stopped at Lugalambo, a section near Mabira forest where they were tricked into a robbery.

It is alleged that the taxi suddenly stopped and the operators pretended to be fixing a problem with the front door. As Barsinai concentrated on locking the door, a pseudo-passenger rose from the back seat and started strangling him. In the process, they sustained injuries and lost all possessions.

They say that although they tried to fight back, they were over powered by the robbers, who were 'quite a number.' One of them explains that the thugs went away with their phones, passports and money and later dumped them in the thickets of the forest.

"Matatu started going, and then, stopped [at a] gas station and they asked me to switch seats with the guy next to me. I was in front - next to the driver and they asked us to help close the door and I was suspicious. Then, they asked me for something to close the door and I thought they were maybe trying to take my wallet from my pocket - I was suspicious. Then all of a sudden, maybe 10 minutes later in the forest, the guy behind me strangled me and I tried to [fight back] but the driver pushed my leg outside and the passenger took my wallet and my bag," said Barsinai.

Barsinai said they were helpless until a Good Samaritan took them to Kawolo hospital. The two have since been transferred to Nakasero hospital in Kampala. Sezzibwa region police spokesperson Hellen Butoto says police is investigating the incident.

"police says is investigating the incident",,,,, hahaha
" Investigation" Then u know they r cracking jokes, which marks the end of the story.

A failed state ,which is breeding ground for state supposed brutality is enough to keep tourists away even natives living abroad won't be bringing in anything.
This ship is sinking doubts.

What would the Israeli security conscious two be doing in Uganda?

Don't they read papers and warnings by other western embassies? Or were they part of the contingency attending the "Nyege-nyege" thing?

Tough luck and let's wait for the reaction from Tel Aviv! History might repeat itself here, beware!

Itai, Shakid were lucky!

Whoever can speak with them (or if they can read this) here is the truth, inconvenient as it may be: These were not ordinary thugs.

They are thugs from the corrupt regime ruled by a despot for 32 years.

All tourists take note. Unless your trip was booked way in advance, or the cost is so high as not to forgo the money paid, postpone your trip to Uganda.

The only safe person in Uganda -- in the true sense of 'safety' -- is the despot ruler himself, and perhaps his family.

Very absurd and unfortunate. The act tarnishes further the country's image on the international scene.

My advise is that travel with passenger omnibuses. When you see a few guys, at times with a lady or two disguising as passengers, always be wary.

They may not end on robbing but also abduct for a ransom. Very sorry for our dear visitors.

Hi,
This similar taxi had been plying that route for for sometime and nothing is being done.

They use exactly similar tactics. They did similar thuggery to a Family member travelling back to Europe. They took everything and it happened just 200 mètres from our home towards mukono on the same highway.

They prétend to be fixing the door. In the taxi were three women and an elderly man who snached the phone and bag and they dumped the poor relative in a similar way.

I do request the police if it is not involved to track down this car and apprehend these pigs.

Thank you so much.

Hell no, another torture and robbery.

Never under previous regimes of swines, were tourists strangled and robbed. But under the regime of criminals; many tourist have been traumatized by the theft of their money, and other valuables.

e.g., on a number of occasions and recently, buglers robbed some Japanese tourist/visitors in Nansana, but nothing was reported.

Let the truth be told, propaganda does not save face. Uganda needs an urgent change of administration.

Otherwise, Mr. M7 and regime have become too complacent and only fighting for themselves, beliefs and especially feathering their nests.
