Two shot at Bryan White event in Arua

Two people are receiving treatment at Arua hospital for gunshot wounds sustained during the chaos that marred the launch of Awakening Youth from Poverty, an initiative of the Bryan White Foundation.

City socialite Brian Kirumira alias Bryan White has been in Arua since the beginning of the week, promoting the programme which he says was started to provide funding to youth in order to help them fight poverty.

But queries were raised on the criteria used to select beneficiaries. White, whose source of income remains mysterious, has been giving out cash to individuals he believes are poor.

Today hell broke loose when thousands of people mainly youth who had turned up for an event organised at Boma grounds when they demanded that they are immediately provided with money promised to them by White.

Members of a notorious gang that identifies itself as "Fire Eaters" immediately turned rowdy after their leader was called on to the stage to present their project. Instead, the members demanded for money and started advancing to the podium.

A huge crowd that had been attracted by the launch quickly turned chaotic with some of the youth grabbing the Silk Events equipment.

Police together with the UPDF officers deployed at the scene fired live bullets and tear gas that sent the crowd into more chaos, blocking traffic on all the roads to Kampala and Arua town. The tear gas spread to all the surrounding areas near Arua Hill forcing nearby businesses to close down.

Two boys whose identities could not be readily established were hit during the scuffle. But, the  North Western regional police commander Jonathan Musinguzi who commanded the security, however, disassociated himself from the actions of the UPDF officers.

Following the chaos, the big show which was expected to extend up to Sunday morning was immediately brought to an end as some of the rowdy youth resorted to looting equipment.

In Uganda today everyone and everything can be messianic!

All victims of the lawlessness ushered in by the 1986 “liberators”. These young people have been denied of education, opportunities, abused and now being humiliated.

After dehumanising them, they will be set against fellow Ugandans. Parents need to stand up and guide their children. It doesn’t look good by the way things are going especially for the young peopl. It’s scary.

Ugthinker, thanks!

It's up to Ugandans, especially the 70% -35 years of age, to bring change of leader & they need the leadership to UNITE them for common purpose!

Musevnei is going no where unless Ugandans want him out for real!

R. mugabe said, before election, that he would vote for opponent of E. Manangagwa because he tormented him, took his place & he will never forgive this!

Museveni can only be thrown out in UNITY & with just 1 opposition party/leader!

Ugandans -35 today will be +60 in 30 years & still under Museveni!

How many of these will still be alive/in good health in 30 years & what will they leave for their children?

In Uganda even drug dealers, money launderers and illuminati are worshipped and given protection by the state security functionaries.

The so called Arua Fire Eaters are right in that "ill-gotten wealth also goes away violently"

Dishing out money is never a proven way of poverty reduction strategy but instead it enslaves.

So called Bryan White is doing nothing but enslaving the Uganda youth by all this money dishing follies.

It's amazing that the youth are the only ones having the will to help their colleagues out of poverty.

NRM bottomed out long time ago.

Ugthinker,

The more a self styled god keeps people uneducated, starved, begging, at his mercy... the more his is powerful & grows imaginary wings & believes he is really flying & never will die!

Museveni has the right people who give him the peace, tax money to go on building the country he so longed to own just the way he wants!

No outsider can stop Musevni but Ugandans themselves, knowing if they go against the chief tribal leader individually, in small groups, tribally, regionally, the demon will crush them!

The irony is that Museveni uses Ugandans themselves to teatgas-harrasse-subdue one another for him!

Every rwandese/foreigner in Uganda knows it's the most peaceful country & heaven for them!

Is this so for Ugandans?

Ugandans should ask themselves: what will happen in +30 years when Museveni will be too old/dies while they don't accept 1 of their own as common leader!

That man is a hard core cocaine dealer. It's not a rumour, I personally know. He is a drug dealer.

I have seen him and know even before he came into limelight a few years ago. That's it, period

Only in Uganda does anybody think they will be "saved" by receiving money from another person.

The more gullible the youth get, the more entrenched the dictatorship gets.

All these events: Throwing money at people, "Saving" others from poverty, "Wealth creation" programs, are not happenstance...they are part of the corrupt regime plan to blindfold the country into abject poverty and servitude.

What better way to perpetuate laziness than to start with the youth, using surrogates like Mr. Bryan White!
