Interior minister Kania doesn't know why Kayihura was arrested

Gen Kale Kayihura

State Minister for Internal Affairs Mario Obiga Kania has said he does not know why the former inspector general of police Gen Kale Kayihura is being held.

General Kayihura was arrested on Wednesday from his home in Kasagama, Lyantonde district on the directives of the UPDF chief of defence forces Gen David Muhoozi. He was flown in a UPDF helicopter to Mbuya army headquarters and referred to Makindye Military Barracks for interrogation on matters that the says are still unspecified.

According to security sources, Kayihura has been linked to the recent spate of crimes in the country, including the murder of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi last year. Now, minister Kania said he does not know why Kayihura is in detention. Instead, he advised journalists to find out from 'the people who arrested him'

"I don't know, ask the people who picked him," said Kania.

Kayihura who was sacked by President Yoweri Museveni in March has been criticized for failing to address insecurity leading to a number of high profile murders, kidnaps and robbers in the country. He had been at the helm of the police force since 2005.

It's during his tenure, that a senior police officer, Kaweesi was gunned down alongside his bodyguard and driver in Kulambiro, a suburb of Kampala.

Also killed during the same time was state prosecutor Joan Kagezi, Major Muhammad Kiggundu, and several Muslim clerics, shot in parts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mayuge. During his reign, a number of women were murdered in Wakiso district is suspected serial killings.

Government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa recently said Kayihura had been arrested for crimes committed during his leadership as IGP.

Jama, thanks, yet,

Why do the other tribes allow this inhumanity to be played against them?

How can Museveni who has no tribal land in Uganda use any tribe or region to enslave the entier country & Ugandans just go along in peace providing tax money used to teargas-imprison-enslave them for +32 years & still counting?

gatashimana, understood!

Every Ugandan in post in Musevnei Uganda; tribal leaders, ministers, mps...all work for the dictator while pretending it's a democracy working for the people!

Even with 1 opposition leader, Ugandans should not think of going for next fake election; no election with throw Museveni out!

UNITY & coming out to block Museveni will leave him no alternative but to leave - the same Unity that forced Acholi to stand down in respect of Ugandans: only this time Acholi will be part of that UNITY against the common enemy who wants to own each & every tribal land in Uganda!

Why don't Ugandans see that they alone, in UNITY, can stop Musevni owning their country formed by tribal lands?

gwok, understood, yet,

As things are, Ugandans are locked in debating Museveni & what he does for yet another 30 years!

What will UNITY of Ugandans to throw Museveni out cost them?

Why are Ugandans so afraid of themselves & want Musevnei to just go on controlling every one/every tribal land riches, while not even tribal leaders have right to say a word about what goes on tribal lands they pretend being leaders of!

And when Museveni will be in full control of Uganda, will he still need tribal leaders in posts & for what?

Where is the future for the 70% under 35 years in this?

Did those who were 30 years old in 1986 & their children get what they wanted/expected from Musevni?

Yet, as it is, Museveni has no opposition to his inhuman tribalistic rule & not 1 Ugandan is ready or accepted by our people to take over, if only to preserve what is left of the country!

All this is rubbish, General Muhoozi has no authority to order the arrest of a fellow general.

Museveni is playing his games. He is using Kayihura to cover up his failure to provide security for the nation which has always been his strength.

When the elections come closer, he will arrest General Muhoozi to hoodwink the people of kisoro. The fact remains you only have 3 years in State House. People will never trust you again. Con!!!

We need to move on from discussing the two names responsible for the destruction of our country and start strategising for the Uganda WE WANT, the Uganda that WORKS for ALL OF US.

We can’t be held captive by these guys incompetence! We need a national dialogue between Ugandans by Ugandans.

The saga about Gestapo KK is much more than we're told to believe. They say the most "powerful general " was eying Museveni's job with the backing of a known foreign country.

There was some kind of an attempted coup underway. But it went wrong for kk

In other word, this is bananas. In a normal country (democracy) the Cabinet is informed about the arrest of such a caliber suspect (Military General and former IGP).

How could the Minister of Internal Affair be blank up to this extent (absentee Minister)? Which also means, Gen JJ Odongo must be blank.

Some people in country only live to suck our blood and eat our flesh.

With regards to the ministers feigning knowledge of the arrest, he is only playing by the security handbook where he is not allowed to comment on sensitive matters that are being investigated.

I think this is the line of response anyone would take to avoid being contradicted and caught up in the web of lies that could unravel in the end.

As for those spreading hatred and tribalistic sentiments, you should know that only when we rise above these petty issues shall we be able to achieve a common goal. Aluta continua
