No salary increment for MPs - Kadaga

Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has refuted media reports indicating that parliament wants an additional Shs 90 billion to cater for MPs' salary increment.

According to Daily Monitor, a leaked supplementary request indicates that parliament wants the additional money to cater for the salary increment of 452 MPs  - a raise of more than 100 per cent from the current salary of Shs 11 million per month to Shs 24 million.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga

Kadaga who also doubles as the chairperson of the parliamentary commission said that there have been no attempts to increase or adjust salaries for MPs. He advised the MPs and members of the public to ignore the reports.

"Honourable members I'm the chair of the parliamentary commission, the budget process started in March [and] everything we have done is clear and known. There has been no attempt to increase or adjust the salary of members of parliament. Thats a lie, just ignore it and I want to invite the public to just ignore that story. Its not true. Just ignore it," she said.

Kadaga was responding to Dokolo North MP Paul Amoru who sought clarification about a story published in the Daily Monitor and aired on NTV indicating that MPs had moved to double their pay to Shs 24 million.
The projected budget of the parliamentary commission for financial year 2018/2019 is Shs 459 billion. Shs 86.9 billion will be for salaries of MPs and parliament staff.

11 million per month and then with other allowances bringing your salary in upwards of 20 million is enough.

Today's MPs are actually more ordinary than a taxi driver and deserve way less than what they currently make for no work done. Then they preach about being self made...

In other words, just like Mr. M7 who said that he is nobody's employee or servant; the MPs have also coaught the disease, and think the rest of Ugandans are their slaves.

I hope the 87% unemployed and homeless youths are listening.

Otherwise, how in the world and for how long can a government worth a name borrow in order to pay salaries for it employees and parasites.

At this rate, this country may have to be torn down at some point, and rebuilt from scratch.

Denials denials and denials is the modus operandi in our Uganda of today. The age limit thing was first denied and castigated as idlers talk but we all know where we are today!

I am not buying into this babel here but will be surprise if there will not be any salaries increase for our MPs the idlers are still idling!!

Mama Kadaga don't later eat your words as is the habit with our top leaders who keep shifting positions like headless chicken.

Note that you are uttering this at your 63 birthday.

Parliament is there because electorate put in office mps to pass bills/allocate tax money to finance:

Education, Healthcare, public housing, roads, national projects for development...!

What are Uganda mps payed for & why should there be more election of mps?

Can present mps justify stand & want to be reelected to continue serving electorate?

gatashimana, thanks!

Let's pray, as Museveni is going no where as there is no Ugandan to replace him, that Ugandans today understand why they elect mps & should continue doing so!

Without public transport, who do Ugandans go to vote?

Lakwena, thanks.

Let's pray Ugandans wake up to see they MUST get their second Independence that will give chance to a start: Reformation of the Republic or Independent Tribal States, then ther will be chance to a beginning of building the country or tribal states!

As things are with Museveni assured of his lifetime post, why would Ugandans even go for next fake election?

Odongkara, agreednn but,

MPs will go on playing to get their share because they know without UNITY of Ugandans, there will NEVER be change of ruler & they need money from Museveni to whom tax money belongs!

Once Ugandans understand the country belongs to them & become actors, they will UNITE to bring the needed change!

As Musevnei is assured of his place, mps will do their best to have drops from under the master's table!

Real change of governance is brought about by UNITY of a people that blocks demons/force them out & not otherwise!

How much more time do Ugandans need to understand they alone can get out of the pit latrine & only in UNITY with 1 opposition leader?

Why don't Ugandans have leadership & are they waiting for another former asylum seeker to replace Museveni?

Dulaney, understood, but,

Don't forget Jeasus already did what he was sent for & is waiting for the time when God will bring us all to awakening to the new world at the given time!

Until then, we MUST survive, do our part to be part of that world! It's time Ugandans stop being naive but UNITE & block Museveni completely to force him out of State House!

If S.Africans-Zimbabweans-Egyptians... forced their leaders out, why can't Ugandans do the same?

All Ugandans have to do is UNITE, tribal leaders stand down from Museveni given posts to bring down the tribalistic system keeping the demon in power!

Either Ugandans UNITE against Musevnei or continue to spectate while he owns their country & our people will be poor oppressed slaves for good!
