Celebs vying for teen awards

One of the biggest teen events on Uganda’s calendar is taking place tomorrow at Kati Kati grounds.

The Buzz Teeniez Awards 2013 will kick off in the morning and run up to 6pm. Organisers have pulled all the stops and have promised a red carpet event plus a gigantic tent; so, it is billed to be fun come rain or shine.

To top it all up, Mountain Dew, the official sponsor, is flying in Lil Wayne’s official disc spinner – DJ 4our 5ive – who is expected to arrive tomorrow.

He will be on the same stage with our top DJs. The Buzz team visited Mariam High School, Kibuli Secondary School, Lubiri Secondary School and Seeta High School Mukono, among others. The visits involved performances by artistes, like Irene Ntale, and also giving students an opportunity to vote.

To crown the event will be the awarding ceremony of the youngsters’ favourite musicians, radio and TV personalities. The most sought-after category is the Teeniez Male artiste award, where Young Mulo, Maurice Kirya, Mun*G and Navio are the nominees. Voting has been going on online and in schools.

Rema, Cindy, Jackie Chandiru and Keko are neck and neck in the highly-contested Best Female Artiste 2013 category. And in the Best Gospel Artiste award Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Coopy Bly, Levixone Lala, Kingsley and Philla will battle it out.

The Teeniez Top Hood rapper will see Big Tril, Ruyonga, Enygma and The Mith out to unseat last year’s winner Navio. However, the bragging rights will go to whoever wins the Teeniez Hottest TV Personality award, in which Robin Kisti (NTV), MC Kats (NTV) and Calvin Entertainer (UBC) are the nominees. Record TV’s Douglas Katogo, who has since resigned, is also nominated in this category.

Expect performances from most of the nominated artistes. There will also be a geeky corner with wireless internet and lots of digital gaming.
