Acibadem, a leading medical group in the private healthcare sector in Turkey, has inaugurated its first information office in Uganda. The inauguration on May 29 was marked by the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Acacia mall.

Several representatives of Acibadem Group’s board and Uganda’s top officials graced the event. Among others İlyas Benveniste, the Acibadem business development director, Mehmet Fatih, the ambassador of Turkey, Nusura Tiperu, Uganda’s ambassador to Turkey and Serdar Dervişoglu, the honorary consulate of Uganda in Istanbul.

This investment provides an option for Ugandans to get super specialised treatment in Turkey which are cost-saving compared to European countries.

During her remarks, Tiperu stated: “What you have is a tested institution,” adding that Acibadem is a reliable medical facility. Uganda will give you all the necessary support that is required.”

The group’s girector of International Business Development, Ilyas Benveniste, emphasized that Acibadem’s expansion to Uganda is a confirmation of good relations between Uganda and Turkey, which he said date back decades. He added that the investment also embodies Turkey’s commitment to bilateral relations with Uganda.

For instance, there will be exchange visits involving specialists from the two countries. It was further revealed that Acibadem has a partnership with local universities, including Kampala International University, which he said is a good thing in terms of knowledge sharing.

Acibadem’s country representative and Kampala office manager, Dr Jackson Abusu Ojera, said the expansion to Kampala is part of the group’s global reach, with the latest being Kampala (Uganda), Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, and Holland.

Dr Ojera said although Acibadem is prominent in the healthcare sector, it may not have everything and, thus, he said, collaboration with local sector players is key.
