Nile Breweries Limited paid Shs 394bn in tax to Uganda Revenue Authority in the last financial year, a growth of two per cent from the previous year, the company announced in a press statement.

The tax contribution still kept the brewer the second top taxpayer in the country, behind top performer, MTN Uganda. Nile Breweries Limited also takes pride in the money it spends on its farmers.

The company says it buys an average of 18,000 tonnes of barley and 10,000 tonnes of sorghum, paying in excess of Shs 40 billion to farmers.

It notes that on average it produces 179,353HL of beer from its plants in Jinja and Mbarara, anchored on brands such as Nile Special, Club Pilsner, Eagle Dark, Eagle Extra, Eagle Lager and Castle Lite.
