Uganda's Thomas Ayeko won a bronze medal in the the 2018 Africa Cross Country Championship which climaxed in Chlef, Algeria on Saturday.
Ayeko recorded a time of 30:47.4 behind Kenya's duo of Alfred Barkach and Julius Kogo who finished first and second respectively in the 10km race for the senior men.
Uganda's other runner Mande Bushendich and Nelson Wakana finished 9th and 12th respectively.
"We are very happy that Ayeko won Uganda a medal on Saturday and it was good for him as he also prepares for the Commonwealth Games next month in Australia," president of the Uganda Athletics Federation, Dominic Otuchet told URN on phone on Sunday.
Otuchet said although the other athletes on the team did not win medals, the federation is happy that they showed improvement in their times run. Kenya retained the overall title after their athletes also dominated the 8km (men) and 10km (women) races.
Ethiopia's Girmawit Gebregziabher won the (6km) women race, while Ethiopia also won the mixed relay race.
Besides the hosts Algeria, the African event also attracted runners from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Africa Senegal, Libya, Benin, Burundi, Djibouti and Mauritius among others.
