With a 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport for a hole-in-one shot at stake, the second edition of the Singleton Challenge has already attracted a lot of interest among local golfers.
The seven-month matchplay tournament is set to tee off on Saturday at Entebbe golf course. Winners from each monthly event will qualify for the grand finale due in June.
Last year, more than 128 golfers competed in the inaugural edition of the Challenge. Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri emerged overall winners and earned themselves an all-expenses-paid trip to watch The British Open at Royal Birkdale in the United Kingdom.
Organizers are yet to announce the grand prize for this year’s Challenge but golfers have a chance to win a brand new Pajero Sport on hitting a hole-in-one shot every month.
Such is the tournament’s appeal for the country’s top amateur golfers that this year’s edition will feature an opening qualifying round as organizing officials expect an overwhelming number of golfers to participate in the event.
Speaking at the official launch of the tournament last week, Uganda Breweries Ltd’s Annette Nakiyaga, applauded organisers and assured their continued sponsorship for the event.
“We are delighted to bring the country’s golfers to Entebbe again. The first edition was a runaway success, and it shows from the phenomenal numbers of golfers who are interested in taking part in the 2018 edition,” she said.
