All is set for tomorrow’s Nile Special-sponsored University League final between Makerere University Business School (Mubs) and Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi at Namboole stadium.
The highly-anticipated final pits two of the most successful teams in the history of the six-year-old competition. Mubs and Nkozi have two league titles apiece. This year’s final is a repeat of the 2015 final in which Mubs thrashed Nkozi 4-0 to triumph.
To reach the final, Mubs dumped Gulu University 2-0 on aggregate after winning 1-0 in either match of the two-legged semifinals.
Nkozi eliminated Nkumba 5-4 on post-match penalties after drawing goalless over two legs. Both institutions have hired some of the best coaches in the country, with Shafiq Bisaso, currently handling Express FC in the Uganda Premier League, set to lead Nkozi in tomorrow’s final.
It is worth noting that the the final will come just 24 hours after Bisaso’s big league match involving Express and SC Villa in Masaka this afternoon.
Mubs acquired the services of Charles Ayiekoh, a hugely-experienced coach in Ugandan topflight football league.
Ayiekoh has formerly worked at SC Villa and is currently coach of Kirinya-Jinja SS FC, which features in the Azam Uganda Premier League.
Before the final, a curtainraiser in form of Nkumba versus Gulu takes centre stage for the third-place playoff spot.
The league sponsors, Nile Breweries Ltd, have staked Shs 15 million in prizes, with the champion set to walk away with a trophy and cash prize of Shs 2.5 million. The first runner-up will get Shs 1.5 million. Other best performers including topscorer, MVP, third and fourth teams, will also be rewarded.
