Egypt defeated Uganda 95-72 to win the finals of the 2017 Afro-basketball qualifiers at Cairo Stadium.
Having earlier defeated Somalia, Burundi and Rwanda enroute to the finals, Uganda automatically qualified for Afro-basketball Championship 2017 to be held in Libreville in Congo in August this year.
The Ugandan team was skippered by Steven Omony. Egypt dominated the game after winning in all the four quarters.
The Egyptians won the first and second quarter 29-18 and 24-18 respectively, before taking over the third and fourth quarter 19-16 and 23-20.
Captain Omony made 19 points, while Darius Pegues picked 17 points for team Uganda. For the Egyptian side Haytham Khalifa made a game high 22 points, while Omar Oraby and Amr Abdhelahim each made 20 points.
The Ugandan women's basketball team, the Gazelles however did not qualify after three loses and one win. On Saturday they lost to Egypt 92-68.
