The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has today decorated 62 newly promoted officers in a ceremony held at the ministry of Defense headquarters in Mbuya.

Major General Ivan Kasirye Gwanga was absent at the event. UPDF spokesperson Richard Karemire says Kasirye Gwanga; the presidential advisor on Buganda Affairs had other engagements. He was last promoted in 2005 to the rank of Brigadier.
"He communicated to us that he will not be able to attend the function because of other duties, so we shall proceed with the other officers," Karemire told the gathering.

Major General Stephen Tumusiime Rwabantu, the deputy commander of the Reserve Forces was the most senior officer decorated at the event, which went on amidst unceasing rain.

These were decorated in order of command appointment, directorate appointment, staff appointment and long and dedicated service appointment.

Kasirye Gwanga is senior to Muhozi in military understanding so how can Kasirye be pipped by Muhozi?

Kasirye made it clear he would not salute these breed of officers. Looking for another reason for absence for the ceremony?

I think "Brigadier" sounds more exotic than "Major General" in African term, what do you think?

I know a guy who in Obote 11 refused to be promoted upwards from a colonel because of the same reason; it is really one's own preference.

On the other hand, I suspect the 'wily Kasirye' opted to absent himself for a purpose, who knows!

Kasirye may still have some Aminism in him, but he is no fool.

How can you promote someone to a general and retire him at the same time? It's a slap in the face.

It's Uganda president' defence forces. This is not a national army because it doesn't reflect the national diversity of our people.

If we can be Frank to ourselves, the above image is enough to prove what I say.most of those on the photo are of the same origin.

Truth at times might seem bitter to those who hate to face it but we have to reveal it because this country belongs to all of us.

It's not the property of people who think like the arrogant general who used a menacing language while delivering a speech.

This Goldman should understand that Ugandans today don't think in the past as them who continue to brandish their banditry accession to power as a world cup trophy. All the majority of Ugandans yearning for is the civilized change of power.
