Man sentenced for smearing wife's undies with red pepper

Lira Magistrate's court has sentenced a man to 40 days of community services after finding him guilty of smearing his wife's knickers with red pepper.

The Lira Grade One Magistrate, Hilary Kiwanuka convicted Moses Okello, a resident of Barmola village, Bala sub-county in Kole district on Thursday.

Court heard that on January 20, 2018, Okello smeared his wife's knickers with red pepper without her knowledge and persuaded her to wear.

"He said he admired me more in that underwear whenever I was in it. He then encouraged me to put on it that day. I developed unbearable irritation shortly putting on the knickers, which didn't go away even after bathing," the woman told," the woman told court.

The woman, whose identities have been withheld, told court that she developed unexpected swelling in her private parts. Okello pleaded guilty, saying he was only making fun of his wife. Tasked to explain what he did, Okello told court that he smeared red pepper on the undergarment "just to make fun of his wife".

In his judgement, magistrate Kiwanuka said what Okello did was uncalled for and therefore sentenced him to 40 days of community service.

History does repeat itself! This is an old trick houseboys used to carry out on the Asian women's underwear when their husbands have gone back to Bombay to bring back their merchandise by ships.

A good six- months return trip meant the ladies "felt lonely"; and pepper on their underwear usually did the trick.

What an idiot of a man, lacking in decency of an upright person! If this lady decides to divorce him I back her decision.

How can you make "fun" of your own wife in such a disgraceful manner of desecrating the marriage " fountain of honour?"

The punishment is too lenient in comparison to the offence committed.

That punishment is adequate. That Judge got it just about right because that length of time in prison is not too long but adequate for others to have a go at that private domestic duty which he said he was making fun of.

Owaileng tic kede tek ba !! It is a pity that I do not know this man because I would be in the front queque (probably kneeling & "con-ne iye") at his door during his assured absence, other things being equal.

At first i thought it was a punishment for infidelity. However, if it was a joke as Okello put it, it went over board.

If pepper can be hot in the mouth, it must be extremely hot down stairs. .

So after this punishment of communal work, i hope the two will get back together as wife and husband and live normal life.
