Gulu Police boss sacked after being shot

Joseph Ayiki

Embattled acting Gulu District Police Commander (DPC) ASP Joseph Ayiki has been sacked from the commanding docket, a day after being shot and injured by a private security guard.

Ayiki sustained gunshot wounds during a scuffle at TAKS (Through Arts Keep Smiling) Center, a Gulu based daytime recreation centre on Tuesday night after he allegedly attempted to take out a chair from the centre.

He remains hospitalized at St Mary's hospital Lacor where he underwent a minor surgery. On Thursday afternoon, the Police Professional Standard Unit (PSU) convened an emergency meeting chaired by Detective Superintendent of Police Osteen Wilber Wanyama, who is acting as Regional Police Commander for Aswa river region, to review circumstances that led to the 3am incident.

The meeting took place at the PSU branch at Aswa police headquarters in Gulu district. A source who attended the meeting said Wanyama announced the news of Ayiki's sacking to police management in the region.

The meeting decided that ASP John Bosco Nyangkol; the OC in charge of operations at Gulu Central Police Station assumes the office of the DPC with immediate effect while AIP Peter Susu was assigned the office of OC Operations. Inspector of Police Moses Ogwang replaces ASP Nyangkol as acting OC Station.

ASP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa spokesperson confirmed the changes to URN saying it aims at filling gap created by ASP Ayiki's sickness. Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima added that the move is to prevent gaps in the command chain and management of Police in Gulu district.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting of ASP Joseph Ayiki remain a subject of investigation and public discussion in Gulu district.

am still puzzled by the circumstances that made the dpc to be mistaken for acrook, one thing to sure of is there were no ill intentions behind the shooting, this could only meen the dpcs actions might have trigered astate of desparity as opposed to the security gaurds actual act of shooting,

I agree. It is common knowledge that many of the violent robberies that Ugandans are subjected to are comitted by or with the colusion of the police and the CPs under them.

If there was ever any doubt about that, this nails it down neatly.

I hope they released from police custody with an apology the brave private security guard who was doing his job shooting this DPC thief.

MRonnie, understood, yet,

As I said in comments not published, as long as Ugandans go along, now joined by Acholi, museveni is going no where & those who can will just join to steal for survival!

When Akot comments to wake up Acholi, this goes down so badly, yet, Akot cannot stay silent & let museveni manipulate his way & have base on Acholiland at a time when those who brought him in have turned backs on him, though stay divided & powerless!

Acholi MUST not allow this kind of nonsense to divert attention, because museveni is not sleeping & one day all will wake up to find his war dogs all over Acholiland & then he will subdue the entire zone without problem & forever!

gwok, agreed, but.

The chief robber-looter is museveni who MUST be thrown out in UNITY before he gets ownership of the zone!

Yet, by standing down from their museveni given posts, tribal leaders could give chace for Uganda too:
Ugandans, especially Acholi, MUST not be distructed, because museveni is really looking to have base on Acholiland & all pretexts is good!

Do those who brought museveni in really want him to have base on Acholiland?

So, why not Unite NOW & throw him out so that there is chance for:

- Reformation of the Republic, or

- Independent Tribal States!

Ugandans MUST stop playing with museveni becuse he will soon own the country while our people are locked on the demon's age bill-land issue-security personel being theives & killing one another...!

In other words, under the guise of unexamined "demystifying the gun"; everybody or anybody will one day have to pay the heavy price of the gun culture, which we have and blindly adopting.

The double jeopardy of the gun is that: the one holding the barrel of the gun, and the one facing the barrel of the gun, both end up badly, as victims of the same gun.

In other words, while the one who face the barrel may lose his/her life; the one who holds the barrel loses his soul (thou shall not kill) and/or end up in jail for life (loses his life too).

An absurdity!
