Friday Night Lights continues tonight

It’s the biggest basketball fun tournament in Uganda. This evening, it will be going into day two of its seventh season at the YMCA grounds in Wadegeya. Top players make teams by selecting fans and former players to compete for different prizes.

The fun-packed tourney has had participants including MPs, beauty queens such as  Stella Natumbwe, journalist Andrew Mwenda, First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba, musicians and socialites, among others.

Every team must have three players from the National Basketball League (NBL), two ladies, three fans, two players from the development league (academy) and a player from the lower league.

A team must have at least one female player on court at the time of play. The winning team in each game walks away with a cash prize of Shs 300,000; while the overall winner gets Shs 3 million.

The most interesting thing is that scores do not determine the winner. There is a panel of judges who vote the most interesting players. Spectators also vote online using their phones. Crowd voting is powered by tournament sponsors Roke Telkom. They provide free Wi-Fi throughout the event.

There will be various surprises and prizes to be won. Entrance is Shs 5,000; while a VIP ticket goes for Shs 20,000.
